Former Liverpool legend Phil Thompson is on a roll of late with his betting tips, predicting Man City would beat Newcastle 2-0 over the weekend and that Spurs would beat Chelsea 2-0 the previous weekend. The Redman has taken a look at this week’s Champions League matches and found plenty of value for a four-fold Bet Builder.

Chelsea v Dortmund

Tuesday, March 7th, TV: BT Sport 1 (8pm)

Dortmund to Win

I’d love to be able to say with confidence that Chelsea will win this game but they’re just not scoring enough goals of late. But, they will be fired up for this game, it’s the only piece of silverware they can go for now this season. They could only manage a 1-0 win over struggling Leeds at the weekend however, and that was their first win in seven games in all competitions.

You have to ask whether that’s really good enough form going up against Dortmund in the Last 16 of the Champions League who themselves have now won 11 games on the trot. I’m really not sure it will be.

I think Chelsea have to score early on but can they do it? I don’t think so, at least early in the game but I do think both teams will get on the scoresheet. Dortmund are obviously a good side, they’re sitting second in the Bundesliga on 49 points, the same as Bayern Munich so they’re having a terrific season and I think they’re going to win at the Bridge on Tuesday night.

Sebastien Haller to Score Anytime

It’s great to see Sebastien Haller playing football again after he was sidelined for so long. He’s looking sharp again too, although the goals haven’t been coming as much as he’d like. I think the former West Ham man will be eager to get one here at Chelsea and I fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet in this very attack-minded Borussia Dortmund side.

Spurs v AC Milan

Wednesday, March 8th, TV: BT Sport 1 (8pm)

Tottenham To Win To Nil

Milan were beaten 2-1 away to Fiorentina over the weekend which is a little surprising as they’d thought they’d turned a corner of late. They came into that game against Fiorentina after winning four fixtures in-a-row. But really, they’ve not been in great shape, if you look back a bit further they’ve been in shocking form this season. They’ve lost six league games this season and are currently fifth in the Serie A, 18 points behind leaders Napoli.

I think we’re going to see a fierce Spurs response here. After losing to both Sheffield United in the FA Cup and Wolves in the league over the weekend they’re going to be very eager to put things right. I really fancy Spurs to turn up here and win this one relatively comfortably. They’ve had four clean sheets over their last five home fixtures and that will stand to them here and I see them winning over the 90 minutes.

Harry Kane to Score Anytime

You just have to look to Spurs’ captain for the goals, he’s going to be bitterly disappointed about them exiting the FA Cup midweek and he’s going to do all that he can to power Spurs into the next round of the Champions League. I fancy him to get at least one against Milan come Wednesday night.
