Monday night’s live Sky Sports Football match sees two ex-Premier League teams meet.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Charlton welcome Portsmouth to The Valley as they look to win consecutive games for the first time this season. Pompey are looking to get back on track having gone three games without a win after a draw with Plymouth ended their six-match winning run.
We’ve put together our three best bets for the clash – so have a gander…
Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth
TV: Sky Sports Football, 8pm KO
Short-Priced Punt: Both Teams To Score
Charlton have kept just two clean sheets all season, and failed to score just twice. They’re draw merchants, with seven draws, six of those being score draws, and five of those finishing one-all.
Both Teams to Score has come through in 10 of the Addicks’ 13 games this season, including nine of their last 10 fixtures. At home, that boils down to five of their six home games, having kept just one clean sheet at home all season.
For Pompey, both teams to score has come through in each of their last three, with home score-draws against Plymouth and Fleetwood, and an away defeat to Ipswich. The play has also come through in seven of their 11 matches this season.
With this form, both teams to score is a reasonable shout.
Value Play: Over 3.5 goals
Two sides that know where the goal is, but struggle to keep them out.
There’s been over 3.5 goals in five of Charlton & Pompey’s games this season, with some high scoring matches for both teams. Whilst Charlton have put five past league leaders Plymouth on home turf, and four past fellow Devon side Exeter last time out, Pompey have conceded three twice on the road, with a 3-3 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, and a 3-2 loss to Ipswich in their last away match.
In fact in the South-coast side’s last three games, this overs punt has come through twice, and for the South-East London outfit, twice in their last four.
It’s a reasonable assumption that there’s goals in this game.
Long Shot: Portsmouth to Score in Each Half & Portsmouth 2+ Corners Each Half
A punt from our #WhatOddsPaddy selections.
Pompey have scored in both halves on six occasions in their 11 games this season, and there’s just two games in which the Blues scored twice in which they didn’t find the back of the net at both ends. They’ve scored in both halves in two of their last three games, including their last away day trip.
As for corners, this is why the odds are a bit longer. Pompey have one of the lowest corner rates in League One – but having said that, two corners each half isn’t that many. They average a shade under four corners a game – hitting that mark last away match, but are bang on the money averaging two corners in the second half of their games this season. If they stick to that average, corners has a great shout of coming in.
