Celtic’s last-gasp winner against Dundee United, coupled with Ross County’s last-gasp equaliser against Rangers, means that the Hoops have the chance to overtake their bitter rivals if they can win Wednesday’s Old Firm derby, something that seemed almost impossible in September after they lost for the third time in their opening six league games of the season.

However, the response from Ange Postecoglou’s side has been emphatic over the past four months, winning 14 of their last 17 games without suffering defeat to close the gap on Rangers to just two points. The Gers, on the other hand, have endured a stuttering start to 2022, drawing twice in their first three league games of the year.

Celtic to win

Celtic have failed to beat Rangers in any of their last seven meetings and have not beaten them at Celtic Park since March 2019. They have a great opportunity to put that record right on Wednesday night and hit the front in the Scottish title race while they’re at it.

Both teams to score

Celtic boast the best defensive record in the Scottish Premiership and have conceded just two goals at Celtic Park in the league this season, but that will be put to the test against a rampant Rangers attack that has failed to score in just one league game all season.

They boast the best attacking record in the top flight, scoring 48 goals in 23 games to date, and have scored in each of their last seven Old Firms and each of their last four visits to Celtic Park.

At the other end, Rangers have been far less convincing, conceding 18 goals and already surpassing the 13 goals they shipped in the league last season. Celtic boast a similarly menacing attack and have bagged just one goal fewer than their Glasgow rivals.

It would be hugely surprising if they failed to score on Wednesday night.

Amad Diallo to score anytime

Amad made the dream start to his loan spell at Ibrox by putting Rangers ahead inside five minutes at Ross County on Saturday.

The Ivorian winger already looks like one of Rangers’ brightest talents, despite hardly featuring for Manchester United in the first half of the season.

Amad showed immense promise against County and should flourish when afforded more space against a Celtic side that will be more willing to come out of their shell.

Jota anytime assist

Jota’s late assist for Liel Abada helped secure three vital points for Celtic against Dundee United on Saturday and saw him move his tally to five in the league from just 12 starts. Only Tom Rogic, who has made four more appearances, has registered more assists for the club this season.

Jota averages 1.6 key passes and 1.4 crosses per game in the league and can help unlock a Rangers defence that has kept just two clean sheets in five away league games under new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
