A number of wet floor signs have been spotted in and around Villa Park as the Premier League outfit await the imminent arrival of incoming boss Steven Gerrard.
In what club officials are describing as a precautionary health and safety measure, bright yellow signage is on display to notify the 41-year-old of potential slip and fall hazards.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
The Midlands club’s owners made the move after learning the outgoing Rangers manager had been affectionately dubbed ‘Slippy G’ by rival supporters.
‘We’re alerting Stevie to the possible presence of slippery substances’, Villa co-owner Wes Edens told Paddy Power News.
‘These could be the result of spillages or inclement weather conditions but most likely because Dave the caretaker has mopped the floor’.
‘Stevie’s like a new-born foal on an ice-rink at the best of times, so hopefully the signs will prevent him going head over arse’.
Gerrard said his goodbyes to the Rangers players during a live Call of Duty hosted by skipper James Tavernier.
‘There’s a bogey on your 9, Tav. By the way, I’m f**king off to Villa lads. Over’, Gerrard told his first-team squad via his Bluetooth headset.
‘I’d rather be in a relegation dog-fight with Villa against the likes of Norwich and Manchester United than spend another 6 months in the SPL’.
‘I’ve posted you all a signed copy of our ‘1-in-a-row’ DVD as a token of my appreciation for our time together’.
In related news, Rangers have moved swiftly to appoint Gerrard’s replacement by agreeing terms with fan favourite Neil Lennon.
Lennon joins the Ibrox outfit on a 6-year deal with the option of another 15.
‘Ever since I was a wee boy growing up in Lurgan, it’s always been my dream to manage Rangers’, the 50-year-old told Paddy Power News.
‘I’m looking forward to big Ibrox welcome during my first game in the home dugout’.
