Paddy Power ambassador Phil Thompson is back once again to run the rule over this weekend’s biggest games in the Premier League, starting with the Friday night football. It’s Southampton v Aston Villa at 8pm to get the ball rolling.
Villa have been stuttering this season and have now lost four on the bounce in the top flight. Southampton are bumbling along and sit 14th having lost their last two. So, who does Thommo think is coming out on top in this one?
Friday 8pm: Southampton v Aston Villa
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
It’s been a torrid one for Villa, hasn’t it? Losing last week against West Ham 4-1 and Ezri Konsa, who’ll be missing this week, got his red card. West Ham made hay in the end but Villa are looking so short of confidence.
Saints are just having that little bit of a turnaround but they’ve only scored nine in the Premier League, I don’t think this is going to be a goal-fest at all. Southampton have only won two of their last 12 Premier League games.
Because they’re at home, fans are back in the stadium, I’m just going 1-0 to Southampton. If you want to get on Southampton to Win to Nil, great, but there’s not going to be a lot of goals.
James Ward-Prowse has just come back from suspension and I fancy him to Score First. He will take the penalties, he does take the free kicks as we know. I think he’ll be a good bet.
