Paddy Power football trader Brian McDonnell has given some of Sunday’s Premier League matches the once over with the good folk at PPTV. Here Brian will be digging deep into Tottenham against Aston Villa and Leicester heading to face Crystal Palace.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Our man thinks there’s some value in backing the underdogs in these games. So, without further ado, let’s see where the smart money’s going. And, just because we’re nice, we’ve done a little Paddy Power News special and boosted the price on this punt as a double.
2pm: Tottenham v Aston Villa
I’m going to go for Villa to Win. This one is a tale of how two teams handled their transfers differently over the summer, I think. Manchester City came in for both of their stars in Harry Kane and Jack Grealish.
Villa let Grealish go and they spent the money wisely. They got in Danny Ings, Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey as well, who’ve all come in and started playing well. Daniel Levy decided to keep Harry Kane who hasn’t been happy.
In Spurs’ three 1-0 wins at the start of the season, Kane didn’t start the first two and then played against Watford where he had just one shot on goal in the 90 minutes. I think, how they’ve handled the Kane situation, something’s not right there.
He’s not in the right frame of mind, he doesn’t want to be there. They should have taken the money and replaced him with someone who does.
I think Nuno Espirito Santo is in big trouble unless he can sort that out. Aston Villa are playing for their manager, morale is high, whereas if you look at Tottenham’s performances, they’re not playing for their manager. It’s hard to see where their next points are coming. I think Villa to Win, as underdogs in this one, is a great bet.
2pm: Crystal Palace v Leicester
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I think Crystal Palace can edge this one at a nice price. They’re undefeated at Selhurst Park with two draws and a thumping win over Tottenham as well. On Monday they had those three points wrapped up and they were very unlucky conceding in injury time against Brighton.
Selhurst Park was absolutely rocking, I know it was a big derby game, but this is the best I’ve seen Crystal Palace play over the past couple of seasons. If you look at their two defeats, they were away to Chelsea and away to Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp said that was the best Palace performance he’s been up against since he’s come to that team.
Patrick Vieira’s started well. I’d love to see Odsonne Edouard start. He’s come on off the bench, grabbed a couple of goals. I don’t think Andre Ayew is a clinical enough finisher for the Premier League, not at the moment anyway.
Leicester played in the Europa League out in Poland on Thursday night so they’ll only have two days to prepare for this game. Their away performances haven’t been good. They were well beaten by West Ham, they were beaten by Brighton away as well after playing against Napoli a couple of days before that.
Last week they drew 2-2 with Burnley and, even though they were the better of the two teams, it is those games they’ve been winning over the last couple of seasons. They’ve been relying on Jamie Vardy, he’s scored five of their seven Premier League goals.
If Leicester are to score it will likely be Vardy on the score sheet again. But, for me and at the price, I’m happy to side with the Crystal Palace Win in this one.
