The European World Cup qualifying games can present punters with many difficulties as there are so many mismatches. Sunday’s slate of games is a good example of this, with many of Europe’s better teams going off at prohibitive odds-on prices.

England are unbackable at such short odds, so the value to me looks to be in the goals market. Gareth Southgate’s men dismissed minnows San Marino 5-0 in their opening game in the group, and it’s worth backing them to keep the goals coming out in Tirana.

Southgate rested many key players against San Marino, notably Harry Kane. The Golden Boot winner from the last World Cup is due to start in this game as Southgate is expected to unleash more big guns in what was already a very potent attack.

Albania laboured to a 1-0 win out in Andorra in their opening game but they can usually be relied on to score at home. Albania have scored at least once in seven of their last ten home assignments. With the Albanians decent home goal scoring record taken into consideration, it’s worth backing over 3.5 goals in a game that looks like it could be very open for England’s free-flowing attack.

Romania v Germany – Over 3.5 goals

One of the most fascinating games of the evening sees Germany travel to Bucharest to take on Romania, and just like England, Germany are a very short price to record an away victory. Die Mannschaft got their Group J campaign off to the perfect start with a comfortable 3-0 win over Iceland last Thursday.

Kai Havertz, Leon Goretzka and Ilkay Gundogan all impressed for Joachim Low’s side, and this team looks capable of putting more goals past a Romanian outfit that scraped past North Macedonia 3-2 in their group opener, Ianis Hagi’s 86th-minute goal was the difference.

Romania have their problems at the back, missing this game are defender Dragoș Grigore and goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu, after the Milan player retired from national team duties. If North Macedonia had no problems exposing the Romanian rear guard, then the Germans will be looking to feast on them.

Backing the over 3.5 goals total again looks to be the best value available and I fully expect the Germans to go into the National Arena with all guns blazing, just like they did in their opening game.
