Fred has been nominated for the Leicester City player of the month award following his starring role in the Foxes 3-1 FA Cup victory over Manchester United.
The Brazilian was instrumental in helping Brendan Rodgers’ side reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in 39 years.
The midfielder’s inch-perfect pass found its way into the path of Kelechi Iheanacho who rounded Dean Henderson to open the scoring in the 24th minute.
After Mason Greenwood’s equaliser just before half-time, it was Fred who provided Youri Tielemans with a clear path to goal and the Belgian duly obliged by dispatching a fine low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
With the game delicately poised at 2-1 and United on the counter, Fred prevented an almost certain equaliser by finding a Leicester shirt with the ball for the umpteenth time.
‘It shows you how far this team has come when their efforts get recognition such as this’, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Paddy Power News.
‘Our stats boys tell me his pass completion rate was 2% which is a new club record’.
‘I’m delighted for him and for the team. That result today spares us a proper spanking off City in the final’, added the Norwegian.
Meanwhile, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, while acknowledging Fred’s performance, singled out another Manchester United star for praise.
‘Fred’s a wonderful human and great character’, said the Northern Irishman.
‘He might get most of the plaudits today but for me, that was Harry Maguire’s best game for Leicester for a long long time’.
In other news, the FA are set to probe Arsenal’s conduct during their 3-3 draw with West Ham after exhibiting signs of a backbone.
The Gunners were trailing 3-0 against the Hammers before staging the most un-Arsenal like of gutsy fightbacks.
‘Grit, determination, desire, spirit. These are not characteristics one would usually associate with Arsenal’, said an FA spokesperson.
‘It would never have happened under my watch’, added Arsene Wenger.
