Police have arrested Steve Bruce on suspicion of throwing a cabbage at himself following Newcastle United’s 3-0 capitulation at Brighton. The incident occurred immediately after the final whistle at the Amex Stadium and Bruce was whisked away for questioning.
Sussex Police chief Rob Banks told Paddy Power News:
“A cabbage was thrown at Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce during their Premier League game against Brighton yesterday. A 60-year-old man is helping police with their enquiries”.

It’s understood Bruce launched a cabbage at himself because the ongoing restrictions inside stadiums prevented a disgruntled Newcastle supporter from doing so. Various sources also claim Bruce paid for the leafy green vegetable himself after being denied the funds by Magpies owner Mike Ashley.
A statement on behalf of the under-fire Newcastle boss read: “I’d like to dedicate the throwing of the cabbage to the Newcastle fans who couldn’t be here today to do it in person. I’ve shown a total lack of respect for myself, but at the same time, what a hit, eh?”.
It was heavier than a house brick, but seeing the look on my own face was priceless.
The result leaves the St James’ Park outfit just two points above the relegation zone, although they do have another defeat in hand over 18th placed Fulham.
Following a run of just two wins in their last 18 Premier League games, many Newcastle fans are starting to believe that nicknaming their club after a bird which is supposed to bring bad luck might have been a good idea.
“I don’t understand why we didn’t nickname ourselves the rabbit’s feet or the f**king horse shoes, pet?”, lifelong supporter Declan Nail told Paddy Power News.
“This could be our third relegation in 12 years, man. We’ve had such bad luck we might as well have called ourselves The Black Cats or something like that”, he added.
