18:00: Blackburn v Swansea City
High flying Swansea City travel to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday. Swansea can do no wrong at present and a late victory against Middlesbrough showed their spirit which has them in third in the Championship with two games in hand. Blackburn were in free fall prior to a 2-0 win against Millwall at The Den.
The clean sheet would have been as welcome as the victory for under pressure Rovers manager Tony Mowbray.
Blackburn have won 22 of the 44 games played against Swansea and will feel confident of getting back to back wins.
Swansea are very impressive going forward and with the in-form Andre Ayew and recent signing Conor Hourihane pulling the strings will be a serious threat to a poor Blackburn defence. The last five meetings between the sides has yielded sixteen goals with both teams scoring in four of the five games. More of the same please for Tuesday.
19:00: QPR v Wycombe – BTTS
OPR will expect a win against relegation certainty’s Wycombe in the Championship on Tuesday. Mark Warburton’s side will have gained plenty of confidence from their 2-0 win against Bristol City and are now 16th in the table.
Their home record however is really poor and they have not won at home in their last four league matches.
QPR will not get a better opportunity to change that on Tuesday. Wycombe have scored just two goals in their last six games and have conceded eight goals. They have nothing to loose at this stage and against one of the worst defences in the league will be highly motivated to at least get on the scoresheet. Manager Gareth Ainsworth will not give up and will remind the players of QPR’s desperate home record this season.
I expect both teams to go all out in this game as both sides will throw caution to the wind in a desperate bid to get the three points. The last time the sides played it finished 1-1 and history shows it’s a fixture that always returns plenty of goals.
20:00: Borussia Dortmund v Sevilla – BTTS
Borussia Dortmund will look to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League when they welcome Sevilla in the second leg on Tuesday. They recorded an impressive 3-2 victory over the Europa League holders in a brilliant game last month.
Erling Braut Haaland netted twice in that game and is quickly becoming the star of the footballing world with his performances both domestically and in Europe. Sevilla will feel this tie is still their for the taking and a second goal scored late on in the first leg was a real tonic to take into Tuesdays return fixture.
Borussia Dortmund v Sevilla
BT Sport 3
Dortmund come into the game having suffered a 4-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the league when their poor defence was once again shown up. Sevilla are also in a poor run of form and were beaten 2-1 at Elche on Saturday. This promises to be a cracking game with both sides brilliant going forward but shaky in defence.
Both will feel confident of making it through to the next round and it is set up for a high scoring game. It looks a sure thing for both teams to score in this one.
20:00: Juventus v Porto – BTTS
The reigning champions of Italy and Portugal resume their battle for a quarter-final place on Tuesday evening. Juventus are inconsistent this season and it was a surprise to see them beaten in the first leg 2-1. They will need to reverse a deficit for the second year in a row in the last 16.
Not having a home crowd is a huge disadvantage for the home sides in the second leg and they will need to start the game much better than they did the first leg. They looked overconfident in that game but despite no crowds the away goals count and getting one was crucial.
Juventus v Porto
BT Sport 2
Juventus have plenty of problems defensively and Porto have scored 47 goals in the Portuguese top flight this season. A recent defeat 4-3 on aggregate in a domestic cup semi-final against Braga could not have come at a worse time however and they will be well aware of having to score at least once if they want to make it through to the next round.
It promises to be a long and nervous night for both sides and I can see extra time possibly being needed to separate the sides.
