We’ve taken a look at some of the best-of-the-rest matches from Tuesday night’s Champions League action and found a value-busting treble that could get your week off to a mighty start.
We’re taking a look at both clashes from Group B where three out of the four teams are unbeaten and the one who has lost – Real Madrid – are already playing catch up. Elsewhere, we’re looking at an Austria v Germany derby where RB Salzburg face Bayern Munich.
Read on to find out where we’re backing.
5.55pm: Shakhtar Donetsk v Borussia Monchengladbach – Over 3.5 Goals
Shakhtar got their Champions League campaign off to the best possible start by beating Real Madrid 3-2 away but they failed to find the net at home in their 0-0 draw with Inter last week. Monchengladbach almost pulled off a very famous victory away to Inter but ended up drawing 2-2 and repeated the performance against Real, going from 2-0 up at 60 minutes to drawing 2-2.
Both of these teams are full of firepower and tend to concede at least one per match as well so we should see goals here in this early kick-off. Three out of five of Shakhtar’s most recent matches have seen Over 3.5 goals landing, and they’ve scored 13 over those five matches and conceded just five. ‘Gladbach’s five most recent away matches have all seen Over 3.5 goals occurring and they’ve scored 16 over those five, conceding eight. We’re going with goals here.

8pm: Real Madrid v Inter Milan – BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals
Real are such a yo-yo club of late. When it clicks they’re ruthless and can beat anyone, but when things go badly they default to Burnley and just lump balls up the field in the vain hope Karim Benzema will beat a slow defender. Inter are also far too inconsistent and since losing the Milan derby just over a fortnight ago they’ve drawn three and won one of their four matches after what had been a very promising start to the season.
The silver lining here though is that both teams are in robust goal-scoring form, Real have scored 13 over their seven La Liga matches and four over their two Champions League matches. Inter too have scored loads with 15 over their six league matches and another two in the Champions League. We should see both teams getting on the scoresheet here but either side is good enough to beat the other and we should see three goals or more as well. Our pick is BTTS & Over 2.5 goals.

8pm: Red Bull Salzburg v Bayern Munich – BTTS & Bayern to Win
Of course the market is heavily siding with the Bavarians here. Salzburg aren’t afraid of anyone on the European stage though and have scored four over their two Champions League matches in the Group Stage and scored another five over their qualification matches. They scored 16 over their six group matches last season – only three teams scored more in the group stages – and they’ve scored 24 over their six league matches this season.
Of course, we still think Bayern will win. They’ve won 32 out of their last 33 matches in all competitions after all, but we’re getting a decent price on both teams scoring and the visitors winning here.
