Liverpool head into this contest in a great place after battering Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield last Saturday, and face a side in Porto that they’ve already beaten by a four-goal margin this season. The Reds also have the luxury of being able to rest players for this fixture, as they sit atop Group B with a perfect record of four wins from four games.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
So with Jurgen Klopp’s outfit already qualified for the knockout stages, we’ve turned to Paddy’s iconic ambassador and Reds legend Phil Thompson to give us a steer on what plays we should be considering for Wednesday night’s game. Thankfully, he never lets us down!

BT Sport 3
Although Liverpool seemed to give them a right doing last time, this is a Porto team who are undefeated away from home in this season’s Champions League – picking up impressive draws at Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. So, I had to factor that in when it came to my selections. They are also joint-top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga with Sporting, so they are doing quite well domestically – even if it isn’t the toughest league in the world.
But, I’m still going to go for Liverpool to win here. They were absolutely terrific against Arsenal and if the Porto manager can learn anything from that game last weekend, it’s don’t wind up Jurgen Klopp – it only gets the fans and the team going at Anfield!
The Red have already qualified and sit top of the group with a perfect record of 12 points, so leave it until late to have your bets on this one so that you know who is in Klopp’s line-up. Liverpool now have licence to change things up given that they’re already through, with niggles piling up already, they won’t want to get any more injuries to important players – so that’s why Klopp’s selection will be a big factor here.
But, I’m tipping Liverpool to take this game 2-0, with Alisson keeping yet another clean sheet. I believe Diogo Jota will definitely play on Wednesday night, along with Mo Salah, but I’m going with the Portuguese star to strike against his former club and score anytime.
