Liverpool suffered the indignity of falling behind West Ham United in the table when they lost at the London Stadium in the previous round of Premier League fixtures, and the same fate will befall them if they lose to Arsenal on Saturday evening. The Reds have the most injuries with which to contend in the top flight too.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
The Gunners’ campaign has so far broken into two very different chunks. Pointless and goalless after three matches, Mikel Arteta then made seven changes to his starting XI for game four and they haven’t looked back. Across the last eight league matches Arsenal have earned the most points in the division, but what they don’t have is a strong recent record at Anfield or in away games against the rest of the European Super League teams either.

Liverpool to win
Jurgen Klopp has hosted the Gunners eight times with Liverpool and has five victories, three draws and a hell of a lot of goals to show for those matches. His side are also top of the Big Six mini-league for the Arteta era.
While Arsenal are fourth in that period, the Spaniard did at least end their streak of 29 away matches against other top clubs without a win last season, by collecting three points at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge.
Don’t be fooled by the fact they’ve won two and drawn one of their last three away league games without conceding though. The Gunners’ shot difference across those matches is -25, their expected goal differential of -1.9 suggesting they were fortunate to earn the seven points they did. The only top half team they’ve beaten this season were Nuno’s Spurs who delivered one of the worst derby performances anyone can recall.
And for all the issues Liverpool have had this season, they’re unbeaten in their last 64 league matches in front of fans at Anfield, winning 50 of them. That streak will inevitably end at some point but with the Reds in need of the points to keep their title challenge on track then they should win here.

The record books will show that the last Merseyside meeting between these teams ended in a 0-0 draw, but that was in the League Cup and the much-changed lineups mean it doesn’t have much bearing on a Premier League encounter. And whether Arsenal or Liverpool are at home, this fixture more or less guarantees goals. Since Klopp moved to England there have been 11 league clashes between the Reds and the Gunners, with under 2.5 goals only paying out on one occasion.
There have also been just two in which one side failed to score – Arsenal both times, naturally – but with Liverpool’s glass chin of a defence in recent weeks and Alisson Becker way below his best at West Ham, the visitors should get on the score sheet even if they ultimately head back south with nothing to show for their efforts.
First goalscorer: Mohamed Salah
Suggesting that the league’s top scorer and joint-top assist provider might be heavily involved hardly takes much research. But consider this: Mohamed Salah hasn’t scored in any of his last three Liverpool matches. Prior to that mini-drought, he notched in 11 of his 12 in 2021/22.
Perhaps a dip was inevitable as such a run couldn’t last forever but having gone over two-and-a-half years since he had four successive 90-minute run-outs without finding the net, the Egyptian will be delighted to see the Arsenal team bus pulling up at Anfield. Salah has faced the Gunners eight times in the league with Liverpool, scoring six goals, and he has averaged 4.1 shots per game while never taking fewer than three. Everything points to his brief barren spell ending here and he can set the ball rolling with the first goal.
Over 11.5 corners
Liverpool and Arsenal both average 11 corners in their league matches this season but have seen more at opposite ends – Klopp’s boys have had the second most while only four sides have conceded more than the Gunners.
There have been at least 11 in Arsenal’s last four away matches and as they will have to defend well to keep the home side at bay, we can expect over 11.5 corners here.
