Brighton have been performing above expectations in the Premier League this term but they face one of the toughest tasks of the season as Manchester City roll into town. Paddy Power ambassador and Liverpool FC God Phil Thompson teams up with our trader Brian McDonnell to shake down this potentially-entertaining game.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
The Seagulls are 4th in the top tier but have drawn their last three games. City are one spot above them but look to be clicking into gear. With the market heavily favouring the away side, is there any hope for Brighton?
Saturday 5.30pm: Brighton v Manchester City
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
THOMMO: Brighton are sitting there 4th in the Premier League, who would have believed it at this moment? They’re unbeaten in five, but they’ve drawn their last three. So, at least they’re showing that they are tough to beat.
They’ve only conceded five goals and there’s only Manchester City and Chelsea who have conceded fewer than that so they’ve really toughened up at the back. I know Brighton, in this fixture, which was their last home game of last season by the way, Brighton won 3-2 after being 2-0 down at half time.
But don’t take all that into consideration because Joao Cancelo got sent off in that game! What more can you say about City? The stats are starting to stack up in their favour. I am going for City to Win, I do fancy Both Teams To Score.
I am going for City to Win by a 3-1 score line. Plenty of goal scorers to choose from because they’ve scored 16 goals but they’ve had 11 goal scorers. I’m going for Phil Foden to Score Anytime in this one.
BRIAN: I’m going to go with City to Win. We’ve talked a lot about Brighton this season and over the last 18 months with Graham Potter. They’re well organised, they play good football but they really lack a clinical finisher.
Neal Maupay has started the season well with four goals in eight games but I don’t think he’s reliable enough and I don’t think he has enough support in terms of scoring goals as well. It’s two 0-0 draws in their last two games for Brighton.
If they’re not scoring goals against Norwich I think you’ll really struggle to score against Manchester City who have only conceded three league goals this season and two of them were at Anfield as well. As Phil said, Brighton did win this fixture last season but Man City were on the beach. I wouldn’t read too much into that result.
