The mighty Phil Thompson has teamed up with Paddy’s top football trader Jason Murphy to run the rule over Saturday’s late game in the Premier League. We’re starting to suspect the Liverpool legend and Paddy Power ambassador might be a secret Bluenose as Thommo thinks Everton are going to get a result again this weekend.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Rafa Benitez’s bunch head to Villa Park to play Aston Villa at 5.30pm on Saturday and they’re occupying the lofty position of 4th heading into this game week. Villa have been a bit disappointing so far and they’re down in 12th, but where’s the smart cash going in this one?

THOMMO

Everton should win this, they’ve had a good start. Dominic Calvert-Lewin being out for a while is going to be a big loss. You’ve seen some of the goals that Everton scored against Burnley, one was an absolute worldie, one was from a set piece and for the other one everything just opened up for them.

I do see Both Teams To Score here. I’ve actually written down Desmond, 2-2 for this one. Villa, absolutely fantastic against Chelsea last week. How the heck that ever ended up 3-0 is beyond me. They’ll score.

Danny Ings has scored five against Everton, they’re his joint-most team scored against. I do fancy Both Teams to Score. Everton had started well but they did last year. They won their opening four scoring 12 last season. I do fancy this as a decent scoring draw.

JASON

Calvert-Lewin is obviously a huge miss but they way they’re going to combat that is to just move Richarlison up front. They still have a bit of a threat when playing out wide whether it’s Demarai Gray or Andros Townsend, they’ve made a couple of good singings there. Villa’s price is accounting for Calvert-Lewin missing.

There’s doubts about whether Emi Martinez and Emi Buendia will play, they’ve had to quarantine in one of the green-listed countries and they’re only getting back possibly 24 hours before the game. Everton, at the price they are, if those two don’t start, is the bet. We rate Everton better. They’re knocking on the door at Europe this season and that’s where I think their sights should be. Everton, at that price, to Win.

The one player that has caught my eye this season is Abdoulaye Doucoure in midfield. Benitez has come in and started playing him more advanced, telling him to get into the box and it’s showing in his stats so far. He’s had eight shots, four on target already this season. He’s already scored this season and has three assists already.

It’s well worth looking at him having a shot on target, scoring or assisting here. If you want to do the big-price double on him to Score Anytime and Assist Anytime it’s huge odds. But, essentially, have a look at Doucoure because the role Benitez has him playing is similar to what he did at Watford.

Villa v Everton picks
