12.30pm: Coventry v Watford
Watford head to Coventry for The Championship’s early televised kick off on Saturday looking to bounce back after a couple of poor results. The Sky Blues are just trying to get into a run of decent form as they look to maintain their status in the second tier.
Saturday 12.30pm: Coventry v Watford
Sky Sports Football
Coventry are 18th in the league with 30 points from 27 games and have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five. Watford are 5th with 47 points and won three in a row before drawing and then losing last time out.
The Draw
Both of these two are feeling for some consistency at the moment, but Watford are clearly the better side with the better players. However, their success this season has been built on some incredible form at home. On the road they are considerably more fallible and have taken just 15 points from 13 games. The Hornets have won three, drawn six and lost four on their travels this season.
Coventry have done most of their good work at home but have drawn as many (five) as they have won at St Andrew’s. With The Draw being the most frequent outcome when Cov’s home form and Watford’s away form are mixed together I’m backing a stalemate between these two.
Watford to Score the First Goal
Win, lose or draw, Watford have scored the First Goal in the last six games they’ve played that hasn’t ended 0-0. You have to go back to December 19th and the 2-0 loss to Huddersfield for a Championship game when they haven’t broken the deadlock when a goal has been scored.
Millwall held them to a 0-0 at the end of January, but with this selection coming off in six of their last seven fixtures, Watford To Score the First Goal is a really nice play.
Troy Deeney to Score First
If we’re assuming that Watford will continue that streak then it might pay to back a Hornets scorer first rather than anytime. And, if that’s the way you want to play, Troy Deeney is the man you should be looking at.
Watford’s talisman is back in favour and is making up for lost time. He has three goals in the last four and is back on spot-kick duty as well. Troy Deeney to Score First is the best goal scoring bet in this game based on recent form.
Saturday’s EFL acca
Next we turn our attention to some selections to consider for your Saturday acca from the 3pm kick offs on the 6th of February 2021 across The Championship, League One and League Two.
3pm: Millwall v Sheffield Wednesday – Sheffield Wednesday (+1)
Sheffield Wednesday have staged a remarkable recovery after giving Tony Pulis the boot and they’ve won four and lost one in the league since December 29th. They’re still in big trouble at the wrong end of the table and sit 23rd, though.
Millwall are pottering along in 14th and have racked up three draws on the bounce. Given The Owls’ form I was very tempted to tip up an away win in this but we’ll play it safer, given Millwall’s penchant for a stalemate, with Sheffield United (+1) on the handicap.
3pm: Burton v Hull – Hull to Win
Burton are in shocking form and are 24th in League One, seven points from safety with 22 games to go. They’ll be looking for some winnable games on the horizon to give them a bit of a boost and to cut that gap. Well, there’s always next week, lads.
Automatic-promotion chasing Hull head to the Pirelli looking to keep the heat on Lincoln, who play on Friday night, at the top of the table. They’ve won three of the last five, drawing one and losing one. Burton have the worst home record in the league and have lost four and won one over the same period. At acca-backable odds you have to be on a Hull Win.
3pm: Doncaster v Oxford – Doncaster to Win
Doncaster’s odds in this game have been given an unmissable boost by Oxford’s form. United have won seven league games in a row, lifting themselves to 10th – but they haven’t played anyone particularly good with 14th-placed Plymouth the highest ranked team in their incredibly-kind run. The teams they’ve beaten have an average league position of 19th.
Third-placed Donny have won eight of their last nine games with the most impressive victory coming against the aforementioned Lincoln last weekend. Oxford’s form can’t be ignored but it can be explained to an extent. At the price on offer the Doncaster Win should be in every acca across the land this Saturday.
3pm: Southend v Walsall – Walsall to Win
Rock-bottom Southend’s mini revival in League Two started with a victory over Walsall back in November and they picked up five more wins in the next 10 games after breaking their duck at Banks’s Stadium. However, they’ve fallen away since their last three points against Barrow and have drawn one and lost their last four.
Walsall are a middling side but they should have enough to right the wrong from the first encounter between these two. The Saddlers picked up a morale-boosting 3-1 win over Port Vale last time out while Southend were pumped 5-1 by the same side at the weekend. The Walsall Win is the way to go.
