Man City v Man Utd Premier League team news, kick-off time and date

Will Manchester be blue or red?

Pep Guardiola and Erik Ten Hag

The Manchester derby takes place this weekend as Man City take on Man Utd at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

Historically, United come out on top having won the fixture 78 times, with an impressive trophy cabinet to match. However, recently the fixture, and the league for that matter, has been dominated by City under the illustrious reign of Pep Guardiola.

They have won the past two derbies, with United last winning away from home in 2021. Guardiola’s men are also unbeaten on their own patch in all competitions this season so a City defeat looks unlikely.

Both sides are fighting hard in the league at the moment, with City looking to keep pressure on leaders Liverpool and United closing in on Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.

With new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe now in charge of football operations at Old Trafford, the mood has significantly lifted. A decent run of form since the turn of the year has put Champions League football within reach and they can still lift the FA Cup, although last weekend’s defeat to Fulham indicated there is still plenty of work to do.

A back-to-back treble is still possible for City, and similarly to last season, they are currently the chasers in a tight race for the title. Jurgen Klopp is Guardiola’s closest rival and in his last season at Liverpool, he will be hard to beat.

This weekend’s derby is huge in the season of both Manchester clubs, and of course, there’s also the all-important bragging rights on the line.

Man City v Man Utd team news

City will be without Jack Grealish after he was forced off during Tuesday’s 6-2 thrashing of Luton Town in the FA Cup. Erling Haaland is expected to play a key role in Sunday’s game off the back of the five he scored against the Hatters.

Meanwhile, United will still be without striker Rasmus Hojlund who has a muscle injury. The 21-year-old was on a great goalscoring run before his injury becoming the youngest-ever player to score in six consecutive Premier League games. He will be a huge miss.

Bruno Fernandes is a major doubt, while the Red Devils are also without a recognised left-back, with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out. It’s a role Victor Lindelof is expected to play.

Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also unavailable.

Predicted Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Stones, Ake, Rodri, De Bruyne, Foden, Doku, Silva, Haaland

Predicted Man Utd XI: Onana, Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Lindelof, Mainoo, Casemiro, Fernandes, Antony, Garnacho, Rashford
