Rio Ferdinand sings Blue Moon with Noel Gallagher and Ricky Hatton

Has the former Red turned Blue?

Footage has emerged of Rio Ferdinand belting out Manchester City’s anthem ‘Blue Moon’ alongside famous City supporters Noel Gallagher and Ricky Hatton. The BT Sport pundit, and diehard City fan since 10pm on Saturday evening, was videoed celebrating wildly with the pair after Pep Guardiola’s side won the Champions League to complete an historic Treble.

Ferdinand was wearing a Man City jersey and repeatedly kissed the club’s badge throughout the raucous rendition of the popular ballad. The 44-year-old also waxed lyrical about City boss Pep Guardiola and encouraged Sheikh Mansour to tie the Spaniard down to a new long-term contract.

‘Man City might not thank me, but get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there given what he’s done since he’s come in and let him sign the contract and go’, ranted the 81-cap England defender.

‘Pep’s at the wheel man, he’s doing his thing. Man City are back’, he added, while grinning and rubbing his hands.

However, as footage of Ferdinand celebrating City’s Treble success began to circulate on social media, the former Manchester United star faced a barrage of criticism from Reds supporters. Defending his actions, the six-time Premier League Champions told Paddy Power News:

‘Just because I celebrated when Rhodri scored, said Pep was better than Sir Alex and got the City badge tattooed on my chest after one too many Rakis, shouldn’t mean people question my loyalty to Manchester United’.

‘My commitment to United has always been 100 per cent, except for those couple of seasons when I begged my agent to get me a move to Jose’s Chelsea. In fact, I’ve always shown loyalty to every club I’ve played for. Except for West Ham, where I came through the academy and then jumped ship to Leeds when they were flying high and West Ham were fighting relegation’.

‘Or Leeds. Where I was club captain then jumped ship to join their arch-rivals Man United. Aside from all that, I’m as loyal as they come’.
