Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has been given the Premier League’s Golden Boot award for the next two seasons, Paddy Power News can reveal.
The 22-year-old striker was handed the double gong following a unanimous vote by Premier League officials.
It’s understood league chiefs decided to abandon their traditional end-of-season awards ceremony with Haaland leading the scoring charts on 78 goals after 14 games.
However, further discussions between officials and clubs resulted in the Norwegian hitman receiving next season’s prize as well.
‘No point in beating about the bush, is there? No one’s scoring more goals than the big man’, a Premier League source told Paddy Power News.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
‘Nunez is a South American Andy Carroll; Conte doesn’t allow Kane to cross the half-way line more than twice a game and Ronaldo is off to prove himself in the Saudi Arabian League. It’s a one-horse race’.
‘We sent the Golden Boot to the Etihad this morning and told Erling to hang onto it until he inevitably f**ks off to Real Madrid’.
Upon hearing the news, Man City boss Pep Guardiola tipped Haaland to break Alan Shearer’s long-standing all-time Premier League scoring record of 260 goals.
‘If he keeps his head down and works hard in training, I am sure he will break that record. This season’, the Spaniard told Paddy Power News.
‘But he better hope he does this before we reach the Champions League final because I will be wrapping him in cotton wool and locking him in my cellar until that game. Why you laugh, eh? I’m serious’.
Meanwhile, City’s neighbours Manchester United have written to Liverpool asking the Merseyside outfit if they intend to swoop in and sign all the players they’re after.
‘Firmino, Fabinho, Mane, Virgil van Dijk, Luiz Diaz and now Cody Gakpo’, wrote United CEO Richard Arnold.
‘Although thanks for paying £85 million for Nunez. Looks like we dodged a bullet there’.
