Scott Carson relieved as six weeks of Erling Haaland shooting practice ends

Busiest he's been in years

Manchester City’s Scott Carson has expressed his relief as a long six weeks of picking the ball out of the net at the Etihad Campus finally comes to an end this weekend with the return of Premier League football.

With the domestic football calendar in temporary hiatus due to the winter World Cup in Qatar, the 37-year-old back-up goalkeeper spent countless hours on the training pitch facing teammate Erling Braut Haaland.

Haaland’s native Norway failed to qualify for the World Cup meaning the 22-year-old spent the entirety of the tournament blasting shots past City’s beleaguered 3rd choice keeper.

And Carson, who has made two appearances in four seasons at the Etihad, is delighted that it’s all over.

“Worst f**king six weeks of my life’, Carson told Paddy Power News.

“I felt like that ‘well done, he’s 13’ child goalkeeper that Michael Owen kept scoring goals past to p*ss off Neville Southall.

“But instead of Michael Owen, I was facing a cross between Ronaldo Nazário circa 1997 and Dolph Lundgren in Masters of the Universe.

“Remember that film? Monica from friends was in it. Bit sh*t though.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

“But nowhere near as sh*t as watching Erling smash screamer after screamer past you for six weeks straight.”

The former Leeds United and Liverpool keeper revealed how he even considered retiring from the game all together about two weeks ago.

“After the umpteenth shot whizzed past my outstretched hand, I thought to myself ‘I didn’t come to Man City for this’,” he added.

“All I wanted was a nice cosy seat in the dugout, pick up my paycheck and get my photo taken with the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.

“I didn’t sign up for shooting practice with the Terminator.”

Asked if there was anything he was particularly looking forward to now that City’s World Cup contingent were returning to training, he added: “Penalties with İlkay Gündoğan.

“That’s as good as a day off that.”
