Klopp congratulates Mane on winning little tournament in Africa

Gold star for you, Sadio

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has congratulated Sadio Mane on winning ‘a little tournament in Africa’.

Mane scored the deciding penalty in the shootout against Egypt as Senegal won their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations.

‘I would like to offer my congratulations to Sadio on winning a little tournament in Africa, the name of which escapes me’, Klopp told Paddy Power News.

‘It’s kind of like the Copa América but much worse’.

‘You know the one I’m talking about? It’s the one where they play the wrong national anthems. It’s on the tip of my tongue. I almost had it there’.

‘Anyway, well done Sadio. Now get your arse back to Liverpool’.

The German also offered his commiserations to Mo Salah who finished the game on the losing side.

‘Chin up, Mo. It’s not the end of the world. It’s not like you lost an FA Cup, Carabao Cup or Champions League final’.

‘Did you see the referee who blew for full-time after 85 minutes? He must’ve remembered he’d left the oven on or something’.

‘Anyway, you have my deepest sympathy, Mo. Now get your arse back to Liverpool’.

Meanwhile, the 54-year-old distanced himself from rumours linking him with the Confederation of African Football presidency.

‘I’d rather stir fry my own feet’, snapped the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

In related news, Senegal fans have expressed their relief after ditching plans to destroy Sadio Mane’s home town during the game.

Supporters of the West African nation decided to raze Bambali to the ground after Mane saw his first-half spot-kick saved.

However, they quickly changed their mind when the 29-year-old scored the winning penalty in the shootout when the game finished 0-0 after extra-time.

‘Sadio spared us from having to make a very difficult decision’, said a spokesperson on behalf of an angry mob who’d assembled after the missed kick.

‘I guess it’s true what they say. Football really is a fickle sport’.
