Solskjaer demands repeat performance from crossbar at Brighton

'Barsy' was always in the right place at the right time at the weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is demanding more of the same from the Brighton crossbar after its starring role in United’s victory over the Seagulls at the weekend.

The Old Trafford side return to the Amex Stadium in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, just days after their dramatic 3-2 league win thanks to a Bruno Fernandes penalty scored during the 2nd leg of the contest.

Boss Solskjaer waxed lyrical about the crossbar after its man-of-the-match display and is hoping for a repeat performance from the horizontal pole: “Barsy’s dug us out of a hole on Saturday but that’s how important he is to this side.”

“He’s made four or five blocks during the game at crucial times. Maybe more than Harry and Victor have made between them since joining us.

“We’re hoping for another big performance from Barsy on Wednesday night. We know he’s capable of winning us the game.”

The Norwegian was also impressed by the partnership the crossbar has formed with VAR during United’s opening three games of the season: “Barsy and VARsy remind me of Yorkie and Coley in many ways.

“They’ve struck up a great rapport and they’ve produced the goods when it’s mattered. Maybe if VARsy’s been having an off-game, Barsy’s been there to bail us out.”

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old remains optimistic the club will make some big announcements before the transfer window ends.

“I’m in constant dialogue with Ed and he assures me there’ll be some big social media posts and maybe even a 4th kit launch before the end of the window.”

When quizzed about the possibility of signing Jadon Sancho, the former Molde boss said: “No, Ed’s f**ked it. So that’s where we’re at with that one.”

However, there was some positive news after United CEO Woodward announced the signing of his new mobile phone contract.

In an official statement released on the club’s website, the 48-year-old revealed how he successfully negotiated an upgrade: “20GB of data, free calls and they even chucked in this fancy new case. Still got it!”
