Football tips: 3 beautiful bets for Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday

We do love when these two clash.

On Wednesday night we have this year’s first, of at least three, Der Klassikers happening when Bayern Munich take on Borussia Dortmund in the German Super.

Both teams surprisingly lost at the weekend in the Bundesliga, and will both be eager to get one over their old rivals here.

We’re only a few weeks into the German season, but Bayern Munich could land their second trophy in a week and the market certainly seems to believe they’ll do just that.

But, what are the three best bets for this German Super Cup match? We’re here to tell you:

Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski to Score & Bayern to Win

It’s been a few years now since Dortmund last beat Bayern away from home. Jurgen Klopp was still the manager and he led his team to a 3-0 victory in April 2014 thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marco Reus and Jonas Hofmann.

Mats Hummels and Marco Reus are the only surviving players from Dortmund’s squad on that day who will be in their squad for this Super Cup match.

Of course, Robert Lewandowski featured in that match, he came off the bench to replace Mkhitaryan on the day and will no doubt feature for Bayern. He was benched for last weekend’s visit to Hoffenheim, but came on when Bayern were trailing 2-1 for the match to end up finishing 4-1.

Poland’s captain has been an absolute thorn in Dortmund’s side since transferring to Bayern the summer after the match mentioned above. He’s faced his former side 20 times since then, scoring a mammoth 18 goals.

Always eager to net against his old club, we can get a decent price on him scoring and Bayern winning over 90 minutes here.

Over 3.5 Goals

This will be the fifth meeting between the pair at the Allianz Arena since October 2015.

All five of those matches have seen Over 2.5 goals landing, all five had Over 3.5 goals come in, four of them saw Over 4.5 goals score and two saw Over 5.5 goals! Do you see where we are going?

With Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland both not scoring last weekend, we reckon they’ll both be chomping at it to get their names on the scoresheet here.

We’re going to be looking at plenty of goals, so we’re backing the Over 3.5 goals trend to continue.

Bayern to Win the First Half

Over those five previous meetings at the Allianz mentioned above, Bayern have been winning at half time in all of them and looking at last year’s Bundesliga, Bayern Munich were winning at the break in 21 of their 34 matches – which is roughly 61% of matches.

Of course, Dortmund are no pushovers, but with Bayern’s recent record against them and their strong home record shows they’re more than capable of going in at the short whistle ahead
