Championship genius! Amazing acca sees punter score £2,122 off just £2 stake

What a call!

We do love a Monday morning to see the wackiest bets that were landed over the weekend and this time it was the turn of a crafty customer from London to put the boot in.

This was no ordinary bet though, as our winner somehow correctly called eight of the nine 3pm kick-offs in Saturday ties in the English Championship. The only Championship game missing from the betslip was Swansea v Birmingham, which our winner left out of his punt.

The bet really was the stuff Saturday acca dreams are made of though, and it beat off 1,060/1 odds to land £2,122 off only a £2 stake.

Here’s how the loot was landed:

Let’s get the boring calls out the way first! We are only calling them ‘boring’ because they came in without any drama.

Firstly, Millwall kicked off our bumper bet by securing a 1-0 success away to newly-promoted Rotherham thanks to a 50th minute winner from long serving winger Jed Wallace. Next on the hit-list was a draw between Sheffield Wednesday and freshly-relegated Watford, and our winner will have been happy to see these two play out a boring 0-0 stalemate at Hillsborough.

An Adam Armstrong hat-trick helped Blackburn secure an emphatic 5-0 home victory over last season’s League 1 Play-Off victors Wycombe Wanderers, making it was three-from-three on the  betslip.

That became a fab four as Brentford rebounded from a disappointing loss at Birmingham last weekend with a 3-0 triumph over Carlos Corberan’s Huddersfield. Joshua Dasilva had the honour of scoring the first goal at the new Brentford Community Stadium and late strikes from Marcus Forss and Byran Mbeumo sealed the deal for the Bees.

The results continued to land the right way for our plucky punter at the Madejski Stadium as Reading saw off Barnsley 2-0. Michal Helik made life difficult for The Tykes after he was sent off in the 42nd minute and that showed in the second half as goals Yakou Meite and Michael Olise grabbed three points for The Royals.

Now for a bit of tension, and our winner was made to sweat a bit over the final three legs of his astounding accumulator.

Needing a draw between Middlesbrough and Bournemouth, things were not looking good as The Cherries lead 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium as the clock ticked into the final 10 minutes. But thankfully, Marcus Browne popped up on 81 minutes with a close-range header to secure the leveller required.

However, time was running out on the other two calls remaining on the bet. However, good news filtered through with five minutes to go at Carrow Road, as summer signing Przemyslaw Placheta netted a late equaliser for Norwich against Preston.

That left one result hanging in the balance with our winner needing Luton to grab three points at home to Derby, but the scoreboard read 1-1 with three minutes to go at Kenilworth Road. As time slipped away, Jordan Clark somehow found himself free at the back post to win it for The Hatters and send our customer into delirium.

With that goal, the money landed in our victor’s account just after the final whistles sounded in the Championship and our bean counters were left fuming. Huzzah!

It’s not every day you see someone talk down odds of over 1,000/1 and all we can do is say “well done and welcome to our Punting Hall of Fame!”
