Football tips: Our 3 best bets for Friday’s Coventry v QPR TV game

Coventry are looking for their first win back in the Championship.

Coventry to win

Coventry play their first home Championship match in over eight years on Friday and a lot has changed since they last hosted a match in the second tier, including their home venue (twice).

Nevertheless, they will be keen to mark the occasion with a valuable three points.

They were somewhat unfortunate in their opening day defeat at Bristol City and probably should have left Ashton Gate with at least a point, but Friday night’s game represents an excellent opportunity to get their first points on the board this season.

That’s because where Coventry were unfortunate on the opening day of the season, QPR were very fortunate.

Recommended Reading:

The London side recorded an impressive win against Nottingham Forest, but were carved open numerous times in the second half and, but for Lewis Grabban’s horrendous finishing, they would have found themselves on the end of an opening day home defeat.

QPR have failed to really replace talisman Eberechi Eze over the summer and they weren’t even that good with him in the side in the first place.

This is the perfect opportunity for Coventry to take a valuable three points.

Tyler Walker to score anytime

Summer signing Tyler Walker was a very shrewd bit of business for the Sky Blues.

The striker was almost on the periphery at Forest, but impressed hugely during a loan spell at Lincoln last season.

He does have some experience at Championship level from his time at Forest and began to find the net with increasing regularity during his last two loan spells away from the club.

Walker still needs to prove that he is the man to keep Coventry in the division and Friday night’s game against QPR represents an excellent chance for him to make a statement at his new club.

Strike partner Matt Godden, Coventry’s top scorer last season, has already scored in the league and Walker will want to get off the mark as quickly as possible in the league.

Over 2.5 goals

QPR under Mark Warburton have never demonstrated any semblance of defensive ability.

They conceded a staggering 76 goals last season – only Luton Town and relegated Hull City conceded more – and little seems to have changed this season.

Yes, they kept a clean sheet in their opening day win against Forest, but that was down to Forest’s poor finishing rather than QPR’s resolute defending.

The London side also conceded three times in their League Cup defeat to Plymouth, proving that their defensive frailties haven’t gone away.

They do look potent at the other end, even in Eze’s absence, and have a good chance of scoring themselves against a Coventry side that switched off during their 2-1 defeat to Bristol.

Coventry do, however, have the ability to score twice against this fragile QPR side and there should be goals on Friday night.
