19:00 Famalicao v Benfica: Both Teams to Score

Benfica are massive favourites coming into their season opener away to Famalicao, with the market heavily backing the away side.

Famalicao did brilliantly last season, finishing a very respectable sixth in the league table after being promoted the season before. No doubt they’ll be looking to improve on last season’s finishing position, but they may find it a tough second season.

The home side have put on a good show against Benfica over the last few years, drawing 1-1 in their previous meetings at the Estadio Municipal de Famalicao. Benfica have beaten them twice at home though. Famalicao were one of the stand out sides last time around though, losing only eight matches all season (four at home and four away) and averaged 1.56 goals per home match.

Benfica have had a very busy transfer window bringing in players to get them the goals this season and the away side have the stronger squad for sure, there’s no doubt about that and they should win.

However, Famalicao were no pushovers last term and are more than good enough to get at least one goal here, so we’re backing both to score.

Thomas Muller

19:30 Bayern Munich v Schalke: Bayern to Win & Over 3.5 Goals

Bayern manager Hans-Dieter Flick has breathed new life into a team that looked tired and depleted when he took over as interim manager in November last year. Thomas Muller had been frozen out under previous manager Niko Kovac and he’s been in mighty form since coming back into the team.

Serge Gnabry had the season of his life last campaign and Leroy Sane is going to make his debut this season. Oh, and they have Robert Lewandowski who just seems to get better the older he gets.

You’d almost feel sorry for Schalke going into this match. Manager David Wagner hasn’t had a great transfer window, although a few players have been brought in to try and add some firepower to the side. Whether it pays off or not, we’ll know within the first few weeks.

2009 was the last time Schalke won at Bayern in the league and that’s not going to change this weekend.

Bayern scored five in this fixture last season and we reckon there’s going to be plenty of goals here as well.

19:45 Charleroi v Beerschot: Both Teams to Score

Charleroi have taken an early lead in Belgium’s Jupiler League, winning five out of five matches so far this season.

Beerschot (which is just an outstanding name for a football club), who were promoted last season, are in second position having won four of their five matches. Charleroi are also heavy favourites here and with them having kept seven clean sheets in their eight most previous home league matches you can see why.

Beerschot though, rarely go a match without scoring and of their 10 most recent away matches in league football they scored in nine. Something has to give here.

The market is siding with Beerschot getting at least one here and we’re siding with them too. Charleroi will be more concerned about getting the win than keeping a clean sheet.

20:00 Lyon v Nimes: Lyon to Win & Over 2.5 Goals

Both teams have been quite underwhelming since Ligue 1 began a few weeks ago, Lyon have won one, drawn one and lost one. Meanwhile, Nimes have won one and lost two.

Nimes’ away record is absolutely terrible as well, of their 10 most previous away league matches they’ve lost eight, drawing one and losing one.

Lyon’s form hasn’t been good since their impressive Champions League run, however at home in the league they’ve only lost two of their last 10.

Nimes do tend to get on the scoresheet though, but Lyon should still come out on top and we’re backing the home side to win and Over 2.5 Goals.
