Football tips: Our 10/1 double for Monday’s games in Ireland and Scotland

Now that the football feast is over in the Premier League, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that there is still top-level action taking place elsewhere.

Thankfully, just in the nick of time, the Scottish Premiership and the League of Ireland Premier Division have returned into our lives to fill the void.

With a new season underway in Scotland and Ireland picking up where it left off, we’ve picked out two games from either side of the Irish Sea on Monday and found us eyeing up this tasty double.

19:45 Ross County v Motherwell: Motherwell to win

Motherwell performed above all expectations in the curtailed version of last season, finishing their campaign in third place. Steve Robinson’s men will be hoping to build on that this season and they start their journey with a long spin north to Victoria Park to face Ross County on Monday evening.

The Staggies managed to keep themselves away from relegation worries in 10th place at the cut off last term, and now under the permanent stewardship of Stuart Kettlewell, they will want to avoid getting into another scrap in the 2020/21 campaign.

Motherwell fans will be keen to see some of the seven new additions to the team that Robinson has secured, including highly-rated Wigan youngster Callum Lang. The Fir Park side won the last two meetings between the sides and we expect Ross County to be up against it again here.

Ross County lost seven of their 11 games after the turn of the year and we’re backing Motherwell’s superior squad quality to give the home side a poor start to the season here.

19:45 St Patrick’s Athletic v Derry City: St Pats to win with both teams to score

For a long time during this pandemic it looked as if we might not see the 2020 League of Ireland season restart at all, so we’re glad to see action from the ‘problem child’ (where is John Delaney these days?) once again.

St Patrick’s Athletic grabbed a very creditable draw at Oriel Park against champions Dundalk last Friday evening and they welcome Derry City to Richmond Park on Monday night knowing victory could lift them to third in the table.

The Candystripes make the trip south on the back of a shock defeat at home to Sligo Rovers and the sluggish nature of that performance will be a worry to Derry manager Declan Devine.

The only thing you can nearly always guarantee with these two is goals and the Both Teams to Score gamble has landed in three of the last four meetings of the sides. St Pats have won the previous two the meetings between them and we’re backing them to make it three-in-a-row here but don’t be surprised if Derry rattle the net at some stage of the contest.
