Premier League Darts: Van Gerwen out to reclaim top spot in this 7/2 treble

The darts Premier League hits Liverpool tonight and we've a terrific freble from 'arrers aficionado Dave Clark to spice things up.

Cross v Wright – 7.15pm

Peter Wright’s been involved in lots of draws this year. He’s drawn five and only won two, another draw last week with Michael Smith 7-7.

He’s taking on Rob Cross, who is playing unbelievable darts at the moment, he’s flying high at the top of the table now. He overcame Daryl Gurney last week and averaged almost 105. He hit three ton-plus checkouts and he really looks like he could win it all at the moment.

I’d also be a bit worried about Wright – I heard he changed his darts four times in one game at the Pro Tour event at the weekend, which is ridiculous – he’s a man out of sorts.

If you’re having one bet today, Rob Cross to beat Snakebite is 4/5 is the one for me. I’d be looking at a scoreline of 8-5, which is 9/2 if you want a bigger price.

Price v Suljovic – 8pm

It’s 10-4 to Suljovic in the head-to-head. He’s playing pretty good darts at the moment, while Gerwyn won 7-3 in Aberdeen previously. He was 5-1 up against MVG last time out and ended up with a draw.

Mensur is in-form, claimed his fifth victory of the season besting James Wade last week 8-6 – he had seven perfect darts and we thought we were getting a nine-darter last week in Belfast – and he’s had four wins in his last five games in the Premier League.

He has the measure of Gerwyn Price for me at 7/5, and I’d back him to take this 8-6 .

Wade v Gurney – 8.45pm

Wade whitewashed Gurney in Aberdeen, it was a real shock result. He’ll want to bounce back after losing 8-6 last week. Superchin’s Belfast homecoming was ruined by Rob Cross 8-4 last time out.

It looks to me that Wade is just playing better darts at the moment and even money looks reasonable. The 8-6 victory for him is 17/2.

Van Gerwen v Smith – 9.30pm

Lots of 180s expected in this. Michael Smith bangs them in for fun, MVG smashes them home brilliantly, there’ll be lots of fun in this. Van Gerwen won 7-5 when they met in Newcastle.

It’s a repeat of this year’s World Championship final when Michael averaged 112! Ridiculous scoring!

Smith says he’s got to win all five of his final matches to have a chance of making the playoffs. He drew 7-7 with Peter Wright.last week despite averaging over 100 while Snakebite was on 90.95. It sums up Smith’s season that he can score so much more and not win.

Van Gerwen’s hoping to recapture top spot after fighting back last week for the draw. I’m looking at the Dutchman all the way in this at 1/3 and an 8-4 scoreline is 4-1.
