Hotshot Jackpot: King Kane lands two punters share of £250k and delivers first Irish winner

Like London buses, our Hotshot Jackpot prize has been won for a second week in a row.

Last week, two Paddy Power customers made history by winning a share of our first Hotshot Jackpot prize of £325,000 after they correctly predicting eight anytime goal scorers in the Premier League.

The trick was miraculously repeated yesterday, thanks to Tottenham’s Harry Kane, as another two lucky lads, Paul A. from Preston and our first Irish victor Malcolm H. from Kildare, landed the restarted pot of £250,000.

However, things weren’t as straight forward for our Irish winner

With Harry Kane being 13/5 to notch the first goal and 4/7 to hit one anytime, it was up to the England’s number nine to deliver the goods for our players when it all came down to Sunday’s late kick off.

After almost an hour of nervous nail biting, Kane found himself all alone in front of goal thanks to a knock down from Dele Alli and a missed fly-hack from Sunderland’s Papy Djilobodji. He made no mistake from five yards to slot past Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford and send out HSJP players into dreamland.

Amazingly, this is the second time a goal around the 60-minute mark, against Sunderland has seen our Hotshot Jackpot prize go – all in the space of six days. Thanks Moyesy!

However, our winner from Kildare faced an anxious wait having selected Christian Eriksen rather than Kane.

The Dane remained on the bench for the entire contest, despite Tottenham making three substitutions. So, out of the kindness of our hearts and as per the rules, his selection defaulted to the shortest priced player for an anytime goal in that game – a certain Mr Harry Kane – and handed him his share of £250,000.

Our HSJP victors now claim half the pot each, with Preston Paul getting £125,000 and our first champ from Ireland Malcolm receiving the euro equivalent.

Not bad for a free-to-enter competition eh…

Magic from Marko

While in the grand scheme of things Marko Arnautovic’s late consolation goal for Stoke didn’t mean much, it was absolutely crucial for our HSJP winners.

Both of the lads had him as their selection with Crystal Palace leading 4-0 and well over 93 minutes on the watch, they must have given up all hope.

However, up stepped Arnautovic blasting one in from outside the box into the bottom corner to keep our winners alive. That left it up to Kane to finish it off and we know what happened there.

Deadly defaults

Somehow we think Malcolm from Kildare will never forget the word ‘default’!

That’s because the lucky sod needed THREE of them in landing his share of HSJP. We’ve already told you about his luck with Harry Kane, but almost unbelievably he needed two others as well.

Having picked the banned Sergio Aguero, he was handed Kelechi Iheanacho who picked off a goal in the 25th minute of Man City’s 4-0 romp against Bournemouth.

Added to that, he selected West Ham’s Diafra Sakho and he wasn’t even the squad to play the side he was linked with in the summer, West Brom. So Malcom was given WBA’s Salomon Rondon instead and he netted before half time for the Baggies.

Any chance of next week’s lottery numbers Malcolm?

Before Preston Paul feels bad, he was also in need of a default grab his share.

He had Cristhian Stuani as his pick to grab a goal against Everton, but the Middlesbrough man was ruled out by injury and Paul was gifted Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku screamed to all that would listen that he got a touch on the Yannick Bolasie cross that ended up in the Boro goal. Even though it looked extremely dodgy, our traders give our former Hotshot Jackpot legend the nod and helped Paul along the way to £125,000.

Kildare’s Malcolm picked the following players for his exceptional eight:

Sergio Aguero – defaulted to Kelechi Iheanacho, Islam Slimani, Diafra Sakho – defaulted to Salomon Rondon, Robert Snodgrass, Romelu Lukaku, Marko Arnautovic, Marcus Rashford and the default Christian Eriksen for Harry Kane.

He split the £250k with a Paul from Preston and his outstanding eight were slightly different:

Kelechi Iheanacho, Islam Slimani, Michail Antonio, Alexis Sanchez, Cristhian Stuani – who defaulted to Romelu Lukaku, Marko Arnautović, Marcus Rashford and of course Harry Kane.
