It’s almost time for the 94th annual Academy awards and the Academy is trying to get the viewers back with a revamped show. Following years of hostless ceremonies, we’re treated to three hosts this year in Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall. Billie Eilish and Beyonce are also due to perrom live at the show.
But enough about that, the Oscars is all about winners and here’s my best bets:
Sunday 27 march, 1am GMT.
TV: Sky Cinema Oscars
Best Picture: CODA
The Producers Guild Awards are generally seen as the best indicator of what will win Best Picture, three of the last four have gone on to win the Oscar. This year’s winner, CODA, has been well backed into around Evens for the Oscar and looks the most likely winner.

Best Actress: Penelope Cruz
Unlike the Best Actor category, where Will Smith seems a sure thing to take home the prize, Best Actress is one of the most open races this year. All nominees have a realistic chance of winning. The late money has been on Penelope Cruz who’s been well backed over the last 24 hours and she’s the one for me.
Best Original Screenplay: Belfast
Licorice Pizza’s shock win at the BAFTAs has made Belfast a backable price again here. Belfast has to win something, and it seems the only likely way that Belfast will get recognized this year is through Kenneth Branagh’s original screenplay.
Best Film Editing: Power of the Dog
One of the most competitive heats of this year’s ceremony. Disgraced itself a couple of years ago by giving the award to one of the worst edited films in history in Bohemian Rhapsody but it’s a stacked field this year. Dune and King Richard are at their rightful place at the top of the betting and would both be deserving winners but I’m going to go with The Power of the Dog here. Editor Peter Sciberras does an incredible job of building tension and with the sheer number of insert shots through the film and at the price the Netflix blockbuster is the value for me.
