A Grand Slam in the Six Nations is a mighty impressive thing, and it’s a privilege to watch greatness at work. But if you ask anyone, the dream scenario going into the final round of games is what we have this year.
A super Super Saturday will see France, England, and Ireland all go into this hoping they can emerge at the top of the pile come day’s end, and even Scotland have a set of (extremely unlikely) circumstances that can see them win.
Yes, France are favourites, there is no point denying that, but we have actual, real jeopardy and something riding on every game. What more could you want as a fan?
Let’s get stuck into it and see what Peter Sharland is tipping…

2:15pm – Italy v Ireland
TV: ITV 1/ RTE 2
Dan Sheehan, James Lowe & Mack Hansen all to score tries
Ange Capuozzo to score a try anytime
We begin in Rome, as so many great stories do, as Ireland look to bounce back from last week’s home loss to France and put the pressure on the two teams playing later. James Lowe and Mack Hansen are both back on the wings whilst there’s a change at 10, too, as Jack Crowley comes in. For their part, Italy has made seven changes, most notably seeing captain Michele Lamaro dropping to the bench.
Italy are undeniably making progress but the way both France and England bullied them doesn’t give us any hope for any result other than a big Ireland win.
To that end, we’re backing Lowe and Hansen to mark their returns with tries whilst the ever-reliable Dan Sheehan finds his way past the tryline again.
For Italy Ange Capuozzo remains the shining light and he scored a magnificent try against England last week at Twickenham, we like him to do the same again moving back out wide to accommodate the return of Tommaso Allan.
4:45pm – Wales v England
TV: BBC 1/ Virgin Media 1
Tom Roebuck & Tommy Freeman to score 3+ tries combined
Total Points, Over 56.5
Steve Borthwick continues to think outside of the box with not one, not two, but three 10s, with Marcus Smith coming back into the team at 15, Fin Smith remaining at 10, and George Ford taking a place on the bench.
England, like Ireland, knows they have to go all out because France are the last team to play. Knowing the result of the first game won’t impact them bar the bonus point situation. There are two changes for Wales, as Joe Roberts and Aaron Wainwright come in from the team that narrowly lost to Scotland.
No Ollie Sleighthome in the squad is a bit of a surprise, as is his wing partner Tommy Freeman moving inside but that opens the door for Sale wing Tom Roebuck. We like both Roebuck and Freeman to score here, so we’re going for them to get 3+ combined.
In terms of overall points, this game is the lowest line of the three, but England have to go big and aggressive to put pressure on France. Yes, there’s a chance Wales will drag them into a slug-fest, but if England do play a more expansive game, there will be gaps in that defence, like there were for Italy at Twickenham last weekend.
8pm – France v Scotland
TV: ITV 1/ RTE 2
Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Damian Penaud, Peato Mauvaka, Duhan van der Merwe & Darcy Graham to score 6+ combined tries
Louis Bielle-Biarrey to score the 1st try of the match & France to win
Another 7-1 from Fabie Galthie bids to mastermind France to the Six Nations title, but it will, of course, be without Antoine Dupont after his devastating injury last weekend in Dublin; Maxime Lucu impressed in his absence and retains his place at scrum-half. Scotland have made two changes in the pack.
We’re expecting this one to be a big win for France as they put on a show in front of their fans to lift the title. But it won’t be one-way traffic, we expect Scotland to have their say at times so we like the wing quartet plus Peato Mauvaka to contribute to a high try count in this one.
We also can’t look away from Louis Bielle-Biarrey to score first to continue his scintillating run so we’re combining that bet with France to win.
