Paddy’s punters tend to be a savvy a lot and our traders need to have their wits about them to keep up with the sharpest sorts and their football flutters.
And let me tell you they were mightily relieved to see one punter from Orpington settle for a cash-out on Sunday afternoon.
See, this perceptive punter put together a very shrewd fivefold that included a 25/1 winner making a bet that added up to a cool £25,740 possible win for their £5 stake.
The only flaw in their punting plan was backing Man United to win, but they were wise enough to recognise the error and take the offer of £7,564 on offer when the Red Devils went behind after two minutes against West Brom.
In fact, wagering on United and Both Teams to Score at 7/4 was the second-shortest priced leg of this fab fivefold, with three cracking calls from the Iranian top-flight – both Tractor Sazi and Mes Rafsanjan to win with Both Team to Score in each of their games yesterday morning, plus Persepolis just to win later in the afternoon, for all you fans of the Persian Gulf Pro League – coming in at odds of 7/1, 5/1 and 1/2 respectively for a tidy treble ion their own right.
But the biggest call was made on the midday Premier League game between Southampton and Wolves.
Our ballsy bettor predicted that the shockingly out-of-form Saints would start brightly against their visitors from the Midlands and go in at the break leading Nuno’s mean to clip their wings in the second half and turn it around for a victory.
Which is exactly what happened thanks to a Ruben Neves penalty and Pedro Neto’s dazzling solo effort, bringing in a 25/1 shout that had our football price-makers sweating on a potential £25k payout from the £5 bet.
But Mbaye Diagne, on loan from Galatasaray, outmuscled Victor Lindelof after two minutes to put West Brom ahead against Untied and ease the worries of our traders.
Shout out to Big Sam – the sausage rolls are on us next time!
They still had to fork over £7,564 as a cash-out option for this excellent punt picker who’ll now be dishing out Iranian football tips in Paddy’s Hall of Fame.
