HOW TO BET ON OLYMPICS

BEST OLYMPICS BETS

If you’re seeking a quick bet on the Olympics but don’t know where to start then check out these three markets…

  1. BRITISH MEDALS TABLE

The British team are always expected to fare well at the Olympics. Granted, Great Britain probably won’t be as successful as in 2012 or 2016, when athletes had received more funding ahead of the London Games.

Still, a market for +/- 14.5 gold medals is always worth looking at, no matter which Games you’re betting on. Great Britain usually look for around 45-70 medals at each Games, which puts them around fifth or sixth on the medals table. They won 19 golds in Beijing in 2008 and that is now considered the benchmark to beat every four years.

  1. 100M FINAL

You can’t watch the Olympics and miss the men’s 100m final. It’s the showcase event and that was revolutionised under Usain Bolt’s reign. Now, the men’s 100m final has again become a lottery as to who will win.

Betting on the 100m final is all about tracking the heats. Those who nail their PBs in the heats and steal an advantage of their rivals will probably go a split second further in the final. Those who only just scrape through should be ignored.

As for the women’s 100m final, it’s been about Jamaica for much of the past decade and that’s unlikely to change over future Games.

  1. CYCLING

Britain’s best medal hopes are, as always, on the bike. They are expected to win medals in the velodrome and compete on the road. Granted, the Great Britain cycling team isn’t as strong as it once was, but medals should flow at whichever Games they turn up at.

If you’re betting on cycling, be sure to keep an eye on the velodrome heats and don’t be afraid to ponder world record odds during the Olympic fortnight. Some will definitely be smashed – even if it’s not a Brit smashing them!

WHEN IS THE OLYMPICS?

The Summer Olympics take place every four years. They run for just over two weeks and usually start in the middle or at the end of July.

Below are the following Summer Olympics scheduled to date place:

  • 2024 Paris – 26 July – 11 August
  • 2028 Los Angeles – 14 July – 30 July
  • 2032 Brisbane – 23 July – 8 August

HOW TO WATCH THE OLYMPICS IN UK

The BBC shows live coverage of the Olympics from across the Games every four years. UK viewers have access to all sports and medal events held across multiple venues. It’s basically wall-to-wall live coverage throughout the day, via the Red Button, and online.

Of course, you can also follow live Olympics coverage via Paddy Power News and track the latest live odds at Paddy Power!

When can I bet on the Olympics?

You can bet on the Olympics either before the Games start or during the action. Betting is split between placing bets on individual sports, or betting on overall outcomes such as medals tables.

You can do it all in the Paddy Power app or online. Our outright odds can go live months in advance of the Games, deepening on what the market is. For example, you can bet on the Olympics medals table before other markets have gone live.

Equally, if you want to bet on an individual sport you can either head to our Olympics betting page, or go to your chosen sport first. Either way, you’ll be able to see the latest outright odds (such as who wins Olympics men’s tennis gold) or match odds (for example, who wins a game during the Olympics women’s football group stage).

Finally, you can also bet live on scores of Olympics events each summer. Sports featuring live odds include: football, tennis, golf, boxing, hockey and volleyball.
