The National Football League possesses one of the best marketing departments on this earth. They make the league so appealing that they can have official leather boot partners.

So it makes you wonder that when the execs sat together a couple of years ago with the idea of promoting the Wild Card Weekend, how they couldn’t have pieced together something more appealing than just putting a ‘Super’ in front of it.

We’re at the stage of the season now where we have to make decisions that make us feel less stupid. Does that involve backing someone like Joe Flacco to beat the young up-and-coming soon-to-be MVP of the league in CJ Stroud? Or does it involve backing a rookie to beat the best defense in the league?

Does it involve going against Patrick Mahomes in Arrowhead in the playoffs, or betting against the most explosive offense in football? Tough sledding. Or should I say ‘super’ tough sledding?

When it comes down to it, the only reason we’d be even considering picking the Texans is because of the productivity of a mere child in CJ Stroud. And when you factor in the pressure that brings, I’m not sure I want to go against the best defensive unit and the veteran.

Now, my choice is primarily based on the fact that one of these teams is plucky and unexpected, while the other’s roster has felt super talented for the last while; just needing a quarterback to launch them into the elite.

We haven’t got a big enough sample size for people to compare them to the likes of the Baltimore Ravens yet, but we might have after this.

David Njoku – Over 56.5 Receiving Yards

Joe Flacco has had a lot of lucky throws so far – they’ve been well-documented, I understand. But for Houston to be efficient, they just need to take away the best outlet, and they can do that through Derek Stingley going up against Amari Cooper.

Flacco’s other favourite target is David Njoku who does not have a single equal in terms of a linebacker or safety in this league yet. This offense will go through him.

Miami Dolphins @ Kansas City Chiefs

The most important thing we can all be aware of is that this is minus eight. No, not a spread – that’s the temperature in Kansas City for this game. Ridiculous.

And while I feel like I’m sliding onto the side of the new age of NFL fans here, I can’t help but feel a combination of De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert can do enough on the ground to send KC into a situation where they need to throw the ball.

The first team who has to throw the ball here is going to lose – and that’ll be Kansas City when Isiah Pacheco does his weird little dances for negative two yards on first down.

            Under 44 Points

This is my favourite bet of the week. Teams will become so one-dimensional here that there won’t be any explosive plays, and we know that generally brings a slow-paced game with the clock churning away in the background.

That lends itself to the under in the cold.

Tua Tagovailoa – Under 231.5 Passing Yards

The NFL passing leader is going to go to Kansas City, throw for less than 230 yards, and see his team run out victorious, primarily because Mike McDaniel has set up a team whose actual core is power runs behind the offensive guards.

Yes, the flashy plays get all the air time, but it’s not their bread and butter – running the ball is.
