Jordan Love Over 228.5 Passing Yards

The Green Bay Packers have a storied history of longevity at the quarterback position, from 1992-2022 a combination of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers started almost every game. With Rodgers moving on this summer the mantle has been handed over to Jordan Love. In his first year starting Love has been, at best, mixed but recent weeks have shown real signs of life.

A 289-yard performance in a loss to Pittsburgh a fortnight ago was followed by a 322 yard outing in victory over the LA Chargers on Sunday. The Packers running back room is beset by injuries so head coach Matt LaFleur will likely rely on Love in Thursday’s division matchup. The Lions defence is fairly middle of the road against the pass and gave up 246 yards to Love earlier in the season, look for more of the same with the Packers QB covering his 228.5 yard passing line in what could be a back and forth battle.

Jayden Reed Anytime Touchdown

Injuries to Green Bay’s running backs creates an opportunity for wide receiver Jayden Reed to show off his versatility. The Packers rookie had four catches for 46 yards against the LA Chargers as he continued a solid debut season but Sunday also saw Reed flash his ability in the run game, picking up 46 more rushing yards including a 32-yard scamper for a touchdown.

Reed, who played his college football at Michigan State, will fancy his chances of scoring for a third straight weekend as he seems to have become Jordan Love’s most trusted target, particularly deep down the field. Reed has a catch of 30 or ore yards in half of his games this season so look for more of the same on Thursday.

Jahmyr Gibbs Anytime Touchdown

Another rookie on a scoring streak is Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who comes into Thursday’s game with at least one touchdown in his last four games, and five scores in total. In the early weeks of the season Gibbs was undoubtedly the backup but an injury to David Montgomery gave the rookie a more significant role and with both men now fighting fit the Lions boast a formidable rushing attack.

Montgomery demolished the Packers’ run defence earlier in the season with 121 yards and three touchdowns but in recent weeks it has been Gibbs who has caught the eye more regularly. Both runners are under evens to score a touchdown in the game but I’m backing Gibbs to keep his streak alive with a sixth touchdown of the year.

Amon-Ra St Brown Over 81.5 Receiving Yards

Detroit’s victory over the Chicago Bears saw Lions receiver Amon-Ra St Brown continue his exceptional season with a fifth touchdown catch of the season but it was a rare week where he didn’t top 100 receiving yards. Arguably that failure to hit the 100-yard mark was down to an out of character performance from Jared Goff.

Over the last two seasons Goff has thrown just 15 interceptions, three of those came on Sunday. Facing a defence who have the second fewest interceptions in the NFL this year I struggle to see a scenario repeating itself – particularly with star cornerback Jaire Alexander unlikely to feature. Just over a quarter of Goff’s throws this season have been in St Brown’s direction and I’m backing him to cover his 81.5 yard receiving line for the seventh time this season.

Total Points: Over 46.5

With multiple players coming into the game in touchdown scoring streaks and a couple of key defensive players missing I’m feeling confident in backing Over 46.5 points in the game. Five of the last seven games between the Lions and Packers have seen 47 or more points including earlier this season when Detroit ran out 34-20 victors. I’d expect the game to be close with Detroit’s superior quality making the difference in the second half.
