Cincinnati Bengals @ Buffalo Bills

Handicap: Bengals +5.5

If you’re surprised to see the Bengals as sizable underdogs against the preseason Super Bowl favourites, you can be forgiven because there’s a strong case that Cincy are the best team in the league right now – how can they be so underrated by the bookies?!

The trouble for the striped ones is their offensive line has suffered a cluster of injuries at the worst possible time.

Over the closing weeks of the season they lost tackle La’el Collins and guard Alex Cappa. The latter could appear on Sunday, but will obviously not be in peak regular season condition on his troubled ankle, and they’ve also to contend with losing Jonah Williams, their other starting tackle, in last week’s win over Baltimore.

It paints a troubling picture for QB Joe Burrow, who was pummeled like Tyson Fury’s heavy bag throughout their AFC title run last season because of the leaky front protecting (or should that be “protecting”?) him.

But they still won.

It might be too much to ask him to completely recreate that extraordinary run – he was sacked nine times against the Titans and still won – but even if Buffalo come out on top here, we’d expect the Bengals QB to manage the situation, and hopeful avoid a pasting, to keep the game competitive.

A Moneyline punt appeals if you believe Cincinnati’s offensive talent can get the ball out quickly and take advantage of the Bills’ questionable secondary, and even more so when you consider how generous Bills QB Josh Allen is with turnovers and how little the running game featured against Miami last week, but we’ll take the +5.5 handicap cushion for our Bet Builder.

Anytime Touchdown: Ja’Marr Chase

Again, the shape of the Bengals’ offensive line is a factor in the better-than-evens price here because Burrow and his receivers need time to make their signature, deep, defence-crushing plays.

However, injuries and a cubic ton of pressure from the Ravens didn’t keep Ja’Marr Chase out of the game – or the endzone – last week, or the week before for that matter.

He has scores in four of his last five games is averaging nine receptions on 13 targets per game during that run, and will almost certainly score if the Bengals are in this. The Anytime price appeals given his play.

Dallas Cowboys @ San Francisco 49ers

Handicap: 49ers -3.5

The Niners have overcome a series of injuries that would’ve ruined other teams’ seasons, and without all that much fuss.

Unheralded rookie Brock Purdy had a shaky start last weekend against the Seahawks but still posted four touchdowns and displayed some impressive footwork as San Francisco pulled away from their division rivals.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

The Dallas defence does give some cause for concern in this spot as they rank as one of the best units in the league and there are naturally still a lot of questions about a rookie seventh round quarterback starting in playoff games, but coach Kyle Shanahan has worked around those issues so far and we’d back him to do it again here.

There are also so many weapons for any defence to account for when they face the 49ers that neutralising, say Christian McCaffrey, still means you’re opening up opportunities for Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk.

Dallas’ best hope is the rookie signalcaller freezing on the big stage, but he hasn’t done it yet and the Niners coaching staff has made everything so easy for him they’re sure to have plan here too. If it works, they should cover 3.5 comfortably given how they’ve been scoring recently.

Deebo Samuel: Over 56.5 Receiving Yards

Samuel looks a great value play here. He had 133 yards receiving last week and seems to have been genetically engineered for playoff football, as some of his bruising runs in last season unlikely path to the NFC title game demonstrated.

That toughness sees him barrel through tackles and power past defenders regularly for that sweet, sweet YAC – Yards After Catch – and while he’s been rather overshadowed by Christian McCaffrey since his trade, that’s in part down to injury.

The Niners have worked him back into the line-up slowly and saw some of the benefits last week. They will surely look to use him as much or more against a Cowboys defence that’ll be a bigger challenge for Brock Purdy to overcome. The QB will need to rely on Samuel’s brute force to make plays – we’re backing him to do it.
