UFC 300 is finally here. The depth in this card is unmatched. It may not have the mind-blowing main event fight we were promised but there are champions, contenders and ranked fighters all over this card starting from the early prelims. So there’s plenty to pick from. Let me show you what I’ve cooked up.

Holly Holm v Kayla Harrison – Kayla Harrison to Win

Kayla Harrison makes her UFC debut as a big favourite against veteran Holly Holm. Kayla comes into the division with high expectations after winning the PFL Lightweight tournament twice with her only loss coming in the 2022 tournament final. She also has two Olympic gold medals in Judo. That’s the calibre of athlete we’re dealing with.

Holly Home shocked the world once already when she knocked out the then untouchable Ronda Rousey way back in 2015 for the UFC Bantamweight title. Similar feat will be required to beat Kayla on Saturday night. Now 42 years old, fighting one of the best in the world in her prime, I think she has her work cut out for her.

I’m taking the short-price favourite. Harrison has a fairly equal distribution of wins by KO/TKO, Submission and Decision so I can’t pick a method of victory. I’ll just pick Kayla Harrison to Win.

Charles Oliveira v Arman Tsarukyan – Arman Tsarukyan to Win

I’m a big Charlie Oliveira fan. He’s gone into four of his last five wins as an underdog and there’s value here again if you like Oliveira.

I’m backing the Armenian though. One thing I like about him is how little damage he takes. Oliveira has the most submission wins in the UFC but many of them were set up with his striking. On average, Arman Tsarukyan is only hit less than twice a minute. He gets a lot of takedowns, 3.4 per 15 minutes on average. I think he’ll stay safe in this fight and get his hand raised by Bruce Buffer.

Arman Tsarukyan to Win.

Justin Gaethje v Max Holloway – Justin Gaethje by KO/TKO

It might not be the last fight of the night but this is the people’s main event.

Max Holloway is the more technical fighter. He’s an all-time great destined for UFC Hall of Fame. In the past decade, he has smoked everyone in the 145lb pound division not named Alexander Volkanovski.

But I’m backing Justin Gaethje to win by KO/TKO. I’ve three reasons why:

The Weight. In 2019, Holloway took a shot at going up to 155 to fight Poirier for the title. He looked small for the weight and was well beaten. I have to say, he doesn’t look any bigger on fight week than he has fighting at 145lbs. Gaethje is a big 155er. Size will be a factor.

Knockout Power. Gaethje goes full send with every shot. He causes serious damage when he lands and despite looking a bit wild and chaotic, he has a funny habit of finding his opponent’s face with those looping shots.

MMA Math. Max has two losses to Dustin Poirier. Gaethje recently knocked Poirier spark out. If Justin knocked out the guy who has Max’s number, then you have to think he can do it to Max as well.

Justin Gaethje by KO/TKO.

Alex Periera v Jamahal Hill – Alex Pereira to win by KO/TKO

I think Alex Periera to win by KO/TKO is a good price. ‘Poatan’ has the elite striking and knockout power. Five of his seven UFC wins have come by KO/TKO. He has knocked out UFC Champions Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya and Jiri Prochazka. I do fancy Periera to add another UFC champ to his résumé on Saturday night.

Jamahal Hill actually does have impressive striking stats. He lands over seven strikes per minute and absorbs just three. That striking differential is as good as anyone in the UFC. He made light work of Glover Texeira for the title last year before vacating the belt due to injury. But he hasn’t fought many top guys. I don’t think he can finesse Periera like he has lower-calibre opponents.

Jamahal Hill has zero takedown attempts in his career and Periera is a striking specialist. They both want this fight to take place on the feet giving us ample opportunity to get our Periera knockout.
