Conflated was the shock winner of the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at the Dublin Racing Festival to burst onto the scene for the Cheltenham equivalent.
Davy Russell steered the 18/1 shot to a 6½l defeat of Minella Indo on Saturday and the experienced jockey could now face a difficult choice of who to ride in the Cheltenham Gold Cup as trainer Gordon Elliott also saddles Savills Chase hero Galvin.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Speaking on the latest episode of our Cheltenham Countdown podcast series, Paddy’s resident jockey-turned-pundit Ruby Walsh revealed who he’d choose to team up with if he was in Russell’s shoes.
While Paddy’s top trader Frank Hickey believes it’s a clear choice between the two fancies. You can listen to the Cheltenham Countdown show in full BELOW.

Ruby Walsh:
“Davy’s in a unique position in that he’s ridden both Galvin and Conflated. Judging by the form, I’d go for Galvin. He’s been to Cheltenham before and won around the track in the National Hunt Chase.
“Davy would be a better judge of that turn of foot – was it a strong gallop in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup? Did Conflated pick up off a really strong pace? He put down on him at the last and made a slight mistake and still managed to get all the way to the line.
“I’d be siding with Galvin but if you were riding you’d be getting a feel off them and you’d probably have a different opinion.”
Frank Hickey:
“If I was pricing up which one Davy would ride I’d be very short on Galvin. You don’t want to commit to Galvin and the next thing he gets injured, however.
“If the two of them get there fit I’d be close to certain that he’ll ride Galvin.”
