13:45 Cheltenham – Hyland

ITV Racing is back Friday for a fabulous Paddy Power meeting and one I have always adored in the past. Sadly I’m not on the team this week but you are in a for a real treat starting here with a Listed novices’ chase over an extended 3m. If Buddy One – once third in the Martin Pipe at the Festival and fourth in the 2024 Stayers’ Hurdle – got his jumping together he could easily make all in this, but the one most likely to have the chance to do that is HYLAND who just looks uncomplicated for Nicky Henderson and the excellent Nico de Boinville. Rated 144, Hyland one over this course and distance in October, and was a pretty useful hurdler back in the day scoring at this track in a big field in October 2023. He’s just a solid type.

Hyland Win or Each Way

14:20 Cheltenham – Jonbon

Up in class now for the Grade 2 Shloer Chase over 2m. I’ve never been sure JONBON is quite as good as his rating, but he really should be far too good for this field being 6lb or more clear of his rivals. Edwardstone is the obvious danger, but he is 10 going on 11 now and it can’t really be expected he is going to be as good as ever. Jonbon was only beaten once last season when he jumped terribly at this track but he stuffed Edwardstone in this race last year and should repeat.

Jonbon Win or Each Way

14:55 Cheltenham – Tommie Beau (each-way)

Here’s a cross country chase over an extended 3m5f. Pretty open despite a small field. Conflated brings the class and Mister Coffey could easily win but he’s still yet to land a chase. I’ll stick with out and out stayer and friend TOMMIE BEAU who is not the most talented of these but is consistent and been in cracking form for a long time now for Seamus Mullins. He will get the trip and I have a feeling he might just love this track. Carried a huge weight when third at Sedgefield recently but he still ran well that day off a high mark. A few quid each-way.

15:30 Cheltenham – Potters Charm

A Grade 2 novices’ hurdle over 2m5f. The key to this race is whether Valgrand stays. If he does, I suspect he will be very hard to beat but at this stage I favour POTTERS CHARM, who doesn’t yet jump as well as Valgrand but who should love going up in trip to 2m 5f now and even further in time. He’s won his two hurdle races – including at this track – in good style and is clearly a promising type for the Sam and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ team. Has a great battling attitude.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
