This looks to bee a gilt-edged opening for hurdling debutant ROMAN ROY who pushed a very smart horse close in his first bumper. He doesn’t appear to have a lot to beat, unless Goodwin Face can find improvement on his Warwick form, when catching the attention of the stewards
15:15 Pontefract – Calla Lagoon (Daily Post)
The battle-hardened filly Love Talk holds solid claims having powered clear to win a valuable prize over 7f at Goodwood last month. But, CALLA LAGOON has also shaped as though he will improve in today’s step up to 1m and his Ascot maiden win has worked out very well. The other three won last time out, too, and are also nice prospects.
15:45 Pontefract – Sophia’s Starlight (The Guardian)
Topweight SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT (nap) returned to form with a game win at Newmarket last month and can follow up off 2lb higher. Alcazan has won three times this year, and may be the chief danger, ahead of soft-ground C&D winner Thursday’s Child. The drop back in trip could be a plus for the lightly raced William Haggas 3yo The Eyes Have It
16:05 Southwell – Pay Attention (Racing Post)
Pay particular attention to PAY ATTENTION (nap) whose sole AW attempt resulted in a promising effort behind two useful colts (including the Gimcrack winner) and a subsequent AW nursery scorer. The selection is very interesting off a mark of just 64 returning to this sphere. Sybaris Jewel, who ran well upped to 1m last time, is second choice ahead of Hippocratic Oath who is the only previous winner in the field. Several of the others may be capable of improvement.
