14:33 – Calyxoh
This looks an interesting maiden and CALYXOH is taken to build on the promise on his debut run at Newmarket. He is a mix on breeding and was already gelded, but showed plenty to work on, clearly having inherited plenty of speed from his sire, and still having every chance in the final furlong. Inexperience cost him on the day, but he was only beaten a head and looks a sure-fire improver now. Rokuni and Mapledurham also shaped well on their debut and should progress.
15:03 – Magic Rascal
Quite a few of these look pretty limited, so MAGIC RASCAL looks the way to go. He represents a yard that is becoming well known for horses improving once entering handicaps and, while he is yet to get his head in front, he went very close at Brighton two starts back, beaten only by a handicap debutant who showed much-improved form. He was too keen at Lingfield last time but, provided he settles better, he should be competitive in this field. Harlington is a player, while Hot Patootie could do better now handicapping at such a low level.
15:33 – So Deuce
SO DEUCE appealed on paper and looked forward ahead of his debut at Newmarket at the back-end of last season, but he wasn’t competitive when the tempo lifted and ran to just a fair level. However, he had a breathing operation after and was much improved on his return to Yarmouth in April, and that form is working out well. He sets a solid standard on form and still has the potential for better. Godolphin’s Sahara View is a very interesting newcomer on his belated debut, though, while Forest Gate is another to note.
16:03 – Reaching High
REACHING HIGH has been brought along gradually and ran well switched to handicap company over a mile and a quarter at Chelmsford last month, and still looks like a work in progress but having every chance in the final furlong. He split a couple of next-time-out winners on that occasion, so the form is working out well, and he is sure to relish this step up to a mile and a half now. Reaching High is just 2 lb higher in the weights and won’t be long until he’s winning races. User Amistoso is feared most ahead of Educate.
16:38 – Hat Toss
HAT TOSS hasn’t been with James Owen long and he ran his best race for the yard when runner-up over seven furlongs at Newmarket last month, though he found himself poorly placed, and did well to pass so many from a position furthest away from the rail. He is threatening to come good and he remains a horse to be positive about racing from the same mark. Metabolt and Charencey, who won readily over course and distance last time, are dangerous.
17:08 – Mrs Trump
Excuses can be made for MRS TRUMP‘s recent reverse at Ripon last time, caught between drifting rivals soon after being asked for her effort and, granted better luck here, she might be the answer to an open-looking contest. Alfred Cove has been knocking on the door on the all-weather of late and he could be the one to follow the selection home. Atty’s Edge and Liberty Bay can do battle for minor honours.
