Horse Racing Tips: Ruby Walsh’s fine Friday flutters at Epsom

Ruby can't go against Ylang Ylang in the Oaks at 16:30 and he's also siding with Finns Charm in the 14:35 on day one of the Derby Festival.

Ruby Walsh’s Friday Epsom Tips

14:00 – Teej A (each way)
14:35 – Finns Charm
15:10 – Emily Upjohn
15:45 – Derry Lad / Liberty Lane
16:30 – Ylang Ylang (NAP) & Secret Satire (each way)

14:00 – Teej A (each way)

New Charter should go well but I’ll side with Karl Burke’s Teej A at an each-way price. She won well at Chester last time out and she quickened sharply. That was over today’s 6f distance so we know she can impress over the trip.

14:35 – Finns Charm

Finns Charm’s price has been slashed but I’ll still side with Charlie Johnston’s runner. He came home well on his seasonal reappearance at Chester earlier this month. He tired after the bend and a mark of 95 is more than workable. This is his second run since having a wind op so he can show more improvement.

15:10 – Emily Upjohn

This could be a messy race. I can see Time Lock bolting out and pushing Luxembourg on. Emily Upjohn, Feed The Flame and Hamish will want that as hold-up horses. If the race plays out like that, it’ll suit John and Thady Gosden’s runner perfectly. She was brilliant in this race last year and she’s hard to oppose.

15:45 – Derry Lad / Liberty Lane

This is a tricky race to call. Derry Lad impressed at Naas last time out but I’m not fully convinced that he will get his head in front as he’s struggled to kick on in recent runs.

Liberty Lane could defy a penalty and go on to win after his Newmarket victory earlier this month but both are tentative picks!

16:30 – Ylang Ylang (NAP) & Secret Satire (each way)

I’m finding it very hard to oppose the favourite Ylang Ylang. She looks like a filly who wants this 1m4f trip and she can show improvement after finishing fifth behind Elmalka in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month. She’s an Oaks horse.

Secret Satire could also be worth keeping on side as an each-way selection after winning at York last time out. She’s overpriced and there’s stamina in her pedigree.
