14:15 – BLUEBERRY WINE
Five-time chase winner BLUEBERRY WINE, who bumped into a useful one when second back over hurdles last time, is taken to go one better. The exposed Geordies Dream, the decent Flat performer Ravenscraig Castle and the ex-German Flat winner Someone You Loved are three others with a chance.
14:50 – EVERYDAY CHAMPAGNE
Five Dollar Fine has to catch the eye going for his hat-trick, when recent recommendations among the others are hard to find, but this is a marked step back up in trip and EVERYDAY CHAMPAGNE looks a potent alternative following his bold show at this track 18 days ago. Good or good to soft ground would be in the selection’s favour, but seemingly not soft. Grand Voyage is third on the list.
15:25 – MISTER MOODLES
There are doubts about a few of these and the one who makes most appeal is Doncaster novice winner MISTER MOODLES who has ideal conditions for his handicap debut. Recent winner Mack The Man and the winning chaser Cracking Destiny should also run well.
16:00 – BRIGHT SUNBIRD (NAP)
Melusine De Pail and Mistral Nell (preferred in that order) both have significant roles to play but the suggestion is BRIGHT SUNBIRD (nap), who moves back up in trip after shaping quite well over 2m4f on her recent stable debut. That run came after a six-month break and it looks significant that she has cheekpieces (worn for last two wins) refitted and Tabitha Worsley (aboard for all three wins) back in the saddle here.
16:35 – BARON BRIGGS
He lacked fluency when below form at Ayr two starts ago and spoiled his chance by persistently jumping left at Carlisle last time, but BARON BRIGGS is given a tentative vote in this modest race in the hope he can recapture the form he showed when placed three times off higher marks last season. Jeteye ran very poorly on his recent chasing debut, but is of strong interest if judged on last month’s hurdling second.
17:10 – YIPPEE KI YAY
This looks a stronger running than 12 months ago, when Shanroe Street was runner-up, and it can go to the progressive YIPPEE KI YAY, who has won four of his nine points and has improved since going hunter chasing. The winning chaser Bothwell Bridge, who has been in good form pointing recently, is next best.
17:45 – BEAU DELLA
Gale Mahler kept on well to fend off the clear runner-up at Southwell and is respected under her penalty, but preference is for BEAU DELLA who swept to the front and looked the likely winner before succumbing to a very strong finisher (who could turn out to be useful) at Hexham. Brian Hughes’s mount Jo Jo Binks is arguably the most interesting of the newcomers.
