13:50 Dameofthecotswolds
Dameofthecotswolds stepped up on her previous efforts over hurdles when runner-up at Cheltenham on her handicap debut on her penultimate start, only edged out close home and finishing 13 lengths clear of the third. She then ran creditably from 4 lb out of the weights in a competitive handicap at Kelso last time, shaping better than the result in fifth after racing prominently in a strongly-run race, and she looks to have been found a nice opportunity back in mares’ novice company.
14:25 Lady Mendoza
Lady Mendoza was well backed and shaped nicely when runner-up at Musselburgh on her return from a six-month break in November. She stuck to her task well in that two-and-a-half miler, leaving the impression that she would benefit from stepping back up in distance, so this three-mile trip ought to suit. Lady Mendoza was declared for a staying handicap hurdle at Cartmel on Saturday so if she doesn’t run here My Monty could be the one to side with. My Monty shaped better than previously when third at Hereford in January on his first start for this yard and, while he has been a bit in-and-out since, he returned to form when fourth at Warwick a couple of weeks ago.
15:00 Big Blue Moon
Big Blue Moon bounced back to form when successful at Warwick on his penultimate start and he produced a better effort to follow up at Hereford earlier this month, jumping better under a more positive ride. That Hereford contest looked like a decent one for the grade (the second and fourth have both run well since) and Big Blue Moon, who is clearly in decent heart, can launch a bold bid in pursuit of the hat-trick.
15:35 Numitor
Numitor offered encouragement when fourth on his return in a veterans’ handicap at Exeter in March, going with plenty of zest before a positive ride in testing conditions took a toll, and he built on that to land a similar event at Haydock, finding plenty to keep the runner-up at arm’s length. Numitor was below that level when a distant sixth at Ayr last time but he was possibly found out by that third quick run in succession and could fare better following a five-week break. He looks likely to give a good account from the front.
16:10 Next Left
Next Left doesn’t have many miles on the clock and he justified support to make a winning start over fences at Warwick a couple of weeks ago, proving suited by the step back up in trip to two and a half miles. Next Left has only gone up 5 lb for that two-and-a-quarter- length success so, with the prospect of more to come in this sphere and over this even longer trip, he is taken to follow up.
16:45 Kado De Joie
Kado de Joie was disappointing on his handicap debut at Ascot on his penultimate start but he got back on the right track when third at Warwick a few weeks ago, looking like a progressive youngster again. Kado de Joie can have his effort marked up as he was held up in a race run at a steady gallop and lost momentum at the last when stumbling on landing. He’s still relatively unexposed and can defy the same mark here.
17:20 Mr Hope Street
Mr Hope Street proved a different proposition on his return from a seven-week break at Market Rasen last month, quickening up well in a steadily-run race and proving strong in the finish to score by two and three-quarter lengths. That form is working out well – the third and fourth both won their next start – and Mr Hope Street, who looks the type who could rack up a sequence, can overcome a 7 lb rise in the weights.
