Can Rosallion claim the Irish 2000 Guineas crown after a narrow second in the Newmarket equivalent earlier this month?
That’s the big question heading into the first Classic of the season in Ireland, but Richard Hannon’s emerging star faces a trio of Aidan O’Brien runners as well as ultra-consistent stablemate Haatem.
Recent history could be on Rosallion’s side as it was only two years ago that Native Trail bounced back from placing second in the 2000 Guineas to land the top prize at the Curragh.
Irish 2000 Guineas odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key historical trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.
Irish 2000 Guineas trends
COURSE FORM
Experience of the Curragh is favoured as eight winners boasted at least one previous run at the track, with seven of those scoring.
DISTANCE FORM
Seven winners had at least one run over the mile, although only five of those had previously scored over the trip.
DRAW
The stall numbers are worth noting as seven winners – including the last five in a row – were drawn in three or lower.
FLAT FORM
Every winner had at least four runs under their hooves, while nine of those had been in the winners enclosure on two occasions or more.
GROUP FORM
Previous success at a high level is important as seven winners had already landed Group honours. Of the three that defied the trend, Romanised (2018) and Paddington (2023) went on to enjoy further Group 1 success.
LAST TIME OUT
A recent outing is crucial as eight winners had their last run within the last 26 days. The same number finished in the top two last time out.
ODDS
Paddy Power’s betting for the Irish 2000 Guineas is more often than not bang on the money as seven winners could be found in the top three in the market, although the occasional shock has occurred with Romanised (2018) and Phoenix Of Spain (2019) winning at double-digit prices.
RATING
Every winner from the period were assessing was rated 105 or higher. Interestingly, the lowest-rated scorer was Paddington, who went on to earn a peak mark of 125.
SEASON FORM
A first time out winner is a rare beast as eight of the last 10 to scoop Irish 2000 Guineas honours had at least one run that season.
Irish 2000 Guineas 2024 trends verdict
ROSALLION and Unquestionable emerge as the leading pair from the pack and it is the British-trained runner that gets the nod on account of the race fitness trends.
