Haydock 13:15 – Nellie Leylax

ITV Saturday comes from Haydock, Goodwood, York and the Curragh starting here with the Silver Bowl Handicap for 3yo over 1m. A wide open event. NELLIE LEYLAX is up to a mark of 92 now after a win over course and distance but he has every chance as he loves juice in the ground. Indeed he needs it. Pierre-Louis Jamin takes the ride for Tom Dascombe on a horse who is perfectly drawn in stall two to go from the front.

Goodwood 13:30 – Balmacara (each-way)

ITV coverage from Goodwood includes this handicap for 3yo over 7f. A tough race. BALMACARA was said to be more than a handicapper when scoring at Doncaster last time and if that is the case must have a chance here off a mark of 94. His stable of Eve Johnson Houghton is in fine shape and regular partner Charlie Bishop is on top. The two worries are a high draw and better ground than he has been on so far as he seems to relish cut. But I’ll take an each-way chance.

Haydock 13:50 – Vadream

Up in class now for the Group 2 Temple Stakes over 5f. The return if Nunthorpe hero Live In The Dream and the Breeders’ Cup Sprint fourth goes on soft so a victory is not impossible. That said, conditions are ideal for VADREAM and provided Danny Tudhope gets on with her this should be set up for her late thrust. The Charlie Fellowes-trained six-year-old was a sound second at Newmarket last time and while she has a bit to find on ratings everything is right for her here. Might be an each-way price as well. Rogue Lightning another big danger in a cracking race.

Goodwood 14:05 – Regal Jubilee

Up in class here for a Listed race for 3yo fillies over 1m2f. I’m happy to give REGAL JUBILEE another try under Robert Havlin for John & Thady Gosden. The Fred Darling runner-up was not good enough in the 1000 Guineas but she’s always wanted a step up to this trip so we get the chance to see how good she is.

Haydock 14:25 – Vandeek

Another Group 2 in the Sandy Lane for 3yo over 6f. VANDEEK was an outstanding juvenile and goes with cut in the ground so should score for James Doyle and Simon & Ed Crisford provided the Group 1 Middle Park hero has trained on. The 2000 Guineas sixth Inisherin is interesting but softish ground is an unknown.

York 14:45 – Brooklyn Nine Nine (each-way)

ITV get under way at York here with a handicap over 5f. Lightly raced BROOKLYN NINE NINE is a risky proposition as he can be slowly away but I have no doubt he has the ability to get in the mix if he wants to off a mark of 81. He has a good fourth at this track to his name and a lovely racing weight of 8st 2lb. Raul da Silva gets the big chance for Richard Fahey and I’ll have a few quid each-way after a reasonable fourth on seasonal debut.

Haydock 15:00 – Persuasion

Now a handicap over 7f. This is tricky. I’m happy to chance PERSUASION for David & Nicola Barron. The selection is a very well handicapped horse and goes with ease in the ground. He’s been out of form recently but this trip is ideal and his second at this track in September was off a mark of 89. He’s been up to 91 since and goes here off 88. Saffie Osborne rides.

York 15:20 – River Of Stars

Up in grade now for the Group 3 Bronte Cup for fillies and mares over 1m6f. RIVER OF STARS is a very strong stayer for Ralph Beckett and with a mark of 107 really should be bang there even first time out this term. The defending champion ran well in defeat after scoring in this event last year and you would think would be ready to defend the crown under Rossa Ryan.

Haydock 15:30 – Solent Gateway (each-way)

A handicap over 2m. I’ll risk one at a big price here in SOLENT GATEWAY with Oisin Murphy a fascinating booking. My selection has been out of form recently but goes with some cut in the ground and hasn’t had that very often recently. His third at York in August of last year was a decent enough effort and it came off a mark of 95. He’s down to 89 here with a tongue strap and cheekpieces.

Curragh 15:40 – Haatem (each-way)

ITV show one from Ireland in the Group 1 2000 Guineas for 3yo over 1m. Rosallion really should win but if eight line up I’m happy to back HAATEM each-way in a field he might be able to dominate from the front. The Craven hero and Guineas third is no mug and just ends up being the price he is because his Richard Hannon-trained stable companion is the number one hope. It’s about prices though and while Rosallion should win he’s too short in comparison to Haatem. So I’m on Jamie Spencer each-way.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
