14:05 Leicester – Al Mubhir
Al Mubhir has been gelded over the winter suggesting that he was keeping a little bit back for himself last season. He started so well with a victory in this contest last year and this could be a perfect launchpad this time round. He needs to win here if he’s going to take up his Group 3 entry at Leopardstown.
14:45 Haydock – Earls
Earls has a fitness edge having run really well in the Irish Lincolnshire and going down in a head bobbing finish last time over the same course and distance. He’s only been given a 2lb nudge from the assessor which shouldn’t cause him any problems. The drop back of a furlong under these conditions looks ideal.
15:20 Haydock – Shelbourne
Shelbourne made no mistake back sprinting at Catterick last time with a very smooth victory. Although he’s yet to win over the long sprint distance despite having tried this discipline on a couple of occasions, the way he hit the line last time suggests it won’t be a problem.
15:45 Leicester – Tiriac
Tiriac was well supported on his return to action at Windsor on April 15 but as has often been the case this season, Jack Channon’s runners have needed that initial outing. Surprisingly, he has been eased slightly in the weights by the handicapper and he has also been gelded over the winter to focus the mind.
16:28 Haydock – Offer And Receive
Offer And Receive was very green and babyish on his racecourse debut and still managed to win but he continued to show signs of immaturity on his second start. That’s why the team have gelded him for his return. He’s probably still going to have some rough edges that need smoothing out but he undoubtedly has the most untapped potential in this line up. The Karl Burke team is going great too.
