13:58 Miss Dolly Rocker

Miss Dolly Rocker enjoyed a successful campaign last season, winning on a couple of occasions, including when last seen at Kempton in November. Miss Dolly Rocker travelled fluently, quickened to lead approaching the final furlong and went clear to register a ready two-and-a-quarter-length success, gaining reward for a string of good efforts in handicaps. She looks fairly treated following a 5 lb rise in the weights and could still have more to offer.

14:33 Haya

Haya shaped as if she’d be better for the run when fourth on debut at Lingfield in August and she duly took a step forward to finish runner-up at Newmarket the following month, impressing with how she travelled in the lead before overhauled by a useful rival. She boasts a good pedigree – by Ulysses out of a half-sister to the very smart Rio de la Plata – and, in excellent hands with Andrew Balding, she could still have more to offer.

15:08 Adaay In Devon

Adaay in Devon had a successful juvenile campaign last season, winning on four occasions and signing off with a good second in listed company at Newmarket in November. She made a promising return to action when fourth in a good-quality listed event at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago, running well against older rivals and males, and she should find this easier dropping into handicap company for the first time with a rider who has won on her twice taking off a valuable 7 lb.

15:43 Silky Wilkie

Silky Wilkie hasn’t been at his best on the all-weather of late but his mark has fallen as a consequence and he is able to run here off a mark 2 lb lower than the one he defied at Musselburgh around this time last year. Silky Wilkie bolted up there, slamming his rivals by four and three-quarter lengths in a style rarely seen in sprint handicaps, and he also ran to a smart level in defeat when only narrowly denied in the Dash at Epsom. He’s much better than this mark if firing on all cylinders so is the one to side with on his return to turf.

16:18 Galloping On

Galloping On showed plenty to work with in maiden/novice company, finishing runner-up at Wolverhampton a couple of times, and he was well backed on his handicap debut at Lingfield in January. He didn’t improve by as much as had been anticipated but he ran well to finish runner-up behind a more experienced rival, shaping like he would have benefited from a stronger gallop. He’s been gelded since then and is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time so there are reasons to expect this lightly-raced sort to raise his game on his turf debut.

16:53 Big Bear Hug

Big Bear Hug did well last season, winning handicaps on testing ground at Leicester and Newmarket, and she made a really promising return to action when runner-up at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago. Big Bear Hug was no match for the thriving winner but pulled six lengths clear of the third and it’s worth noting that she was the only one of the first five home who wasn’t fit from the all-weather. She looks well treated following just a 1 lb rise in the weights and the application of cheekpieces, which she wore at Newmarket last season, could bring about a bigger effort.

17:25 Thornaby Pearl

Thornaby Pearl looked as good as ever when making a successful return at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago, impressing with how enthusiastically he travelled at the head of affairs before quickening clear approaching the final furlong. He won by two and a half lengths with a bit to spare and, clearly in excellent order, he looks the one to beat despite a 7 lb rise in the weights.

17:55 Four Adaay

Four Adaay ended last season with a couple of underwhelming efforts but she’s been dropped a couple of pounds in the weights and is able to start her season in 0-70 company. She’s won on her reappearance before and might be too good in a race containing plenty with something to prove.
