13:40 Percy Willis
An open race in which the vote goes to PERCY WILLIS, who recorded his fifth AW win when justifying favouritism at Newcastle two weeks ago and is only 2lb higher than for that success. Hill Station and recent C&D winner Mirabello Bay are feared most in that order, although the fairly useful hurdler Castel Gandolfo is still unexposed on the Flat and needs a close look back in this sphere. Others who could be dangerous are Major Major and Stage Show.
14:15 Pappano
Three of these have similar form claims but one of them, Jacques Cartier, was turned over at 4-9 last time. He’s been gelded since but preference has to be for PAPPANO and Open Secret, who were both third in December first time out, with the former making a particularly strong impression and is also a Derby entry.
14:53 Bob The Bandit
Lady Dorchester was a weak 5-2 shot at Newcastle last Monday but she ran well for a long way and should improve for that experience. Jimmy Henry represents a yard that had a 30% strike rate with 2yos here last year, while George Boughey’s newcomer Foro Romano also needs watching in the market. However, it is hard to get away from BOB THE BANDIT, who showed plenty of promise with his strong-finishing second in the Brocklesby and sets a good standard on that form.
15:28 Big Dream
Several have possibilities but the vote goes to Irish raider BIG DREAM, who was an emphatic winner here in February and had an excuse when badly hampered over C&D last month. He remains very well-treated in his old form and looks worth another chance. Conquest Of Power, who had a near miss over 7f at Chelmsford last time, is feared most ahead of Mintana, who looks interesting on her step back up to 6f. Others to keep an eye on are White Umbrella and Marco Botti’s unexposed 4yo Inspired Knowhow.
16:03 Tasmanian Legend
A fascinating race involving five last-time-out winners. Sennockian is unbeaten in three 1m handicaps this year and should make another bold. The ex-Irish Rocking Tree looks open to more progress back up in trip on his handicap debut, while recent Southwell winner Invincible Aura also makes the shortlist on his return to a handicap. However, the vote goes to TASMANIAN LEGEND, who has been a major improver on Tapeta this year and made it 3-4 for Alice Haynes when completing a C&D double last month.
16:38 Swiss Rowe
Most of these come with risks attached in this tricky race but it might be worth siding with triple AW winner SWISS ROWE. He wasn’t at his best at Kempton last time but that was after a close third over C&D and he’s a big player if he can recapture that form. The main threat could come from Ruth Carr’s 11yo Reputation, who has finished third here and at Chelmsford in his last two runs.
17:13 Revolucion
This looks a bit trappy but the most persuasive option is REVOLUCION, who has held his form well since his win here in December and has finished close up on Polytrack in his last three starts. Another in-form 4yo Midnightattheoasis is feared most, although Viewfromthestars has had some close calls this year and looks interesting on this step back up in trip. Mudlahhim also enters the reckoning along with Theotherside.
17:48 Night On Earth (NAP)
Top of the list is Ian Williams’ trailblazer NIGHT ON EARTH (nap), who recorded his ninth win when scoring at Lingfield in January and was a good second behind a major improver at Chelmsford last time. Last month’s Southwell second Level Up could be the main danger, although Crimson Angel still has potential and she’s respected back from a short break. The other one on the shortlist is Jojo Rabbit, who ended last season with a C&D win and remains well-treated in his old form.
