13:50 Musselburgh – Johnny Ringo

JOHNNY RINGO has fitness on his side and an ability to handle soft ground will be the key. He won nicely at Newcastle over 7f and his trainer Lucinda Russell, better known for her jumps horses and Grand National winner Corach Rambler, does well with her small team on the Flat and has to be respected.

14:05 Haydock – Brentford Hope

BRENTFORD HOPE is having a great season under Harry Derham and won last time at Newcastle, having to be ridden more forward than he really likes. A fast pace is ideal, and with a few who go forward in this contest, it should set up perfectly for him.

14:25 Musselburgh – Poet Master

POET MASTER, son of Lope De Vega, has won three of his four starts, is the youngest in the field, and has to be in the improver category. He gets the nod over some exposed performers for that reason. Northern Express normally takes a run to hit peak form but will be dangerous if ready.

14:40 Haydock – Judicial Law

JUDICIAL LAW ran well at Newbury, finishing fifth. Hee is better than he showed there, and this sort of test could be perfect for him. The son of Fame And Glory has been in good form under Jonjo O’Neill. Goshhowposh was very disappointing at Exeter, but now blinkered, he could be a big danger as the talent is there.

15:00 Musselburgh – Zarzyni

ZARZYNI finished a good second at Newcastle three weeks ago and is the one to be with. I am taking a punt on this seven-year-old, but I am slightly worried about last year‘s easy winner Silky Wilkie. That easy success is still fresh in the memory.

15:15 Haydock – Thor De Cerisy

THOR DE CERISY is twice a winner at Chepstow and has shown that the ground is not an issue for him. Trainer Neil Mulholland has found a lovely opportunity for him. He is unlucky not to have won his last three contests and is the one I’d like to be on here. Pink Legend is also interesting. She likes to be ridden very forward and, if allowed an uncontested lead, could be dangerous.

15:35 Musselburgh – Metier

METIER had a run in the Imperial cop at Sandown to blow the cobwebs away, so he comes here fit. He is smart on his day and it is a long haul from Harry Fry‘s base to Musselburgh. Carrying top weight in a contest like this will be hard but, I don’t think they are travelling all this way to see the oldest Open golf venue!
